Anyone have experience with the Crossman M-1 Carbine?

When I was a kid, two of my friends had those.

Of course I can't give you any kind of in-depth review of them because........I was a kid and the guns wern't mine.

I can tell you that they worked fine for what kids do with BB guns and I thought they were very cool at the time.

I had one when I was a kid and even then I wasn't impressed except for the way it looked. The magazine was detachable and held extra bb's. To load you pulled back the "cocking handle" and dropped BB's down a small hole on the top of the handguard and then pushed the cocking handle forward which was attached to a small piece of sheet metal under the handguard that would cover the hole. I probably dropped more BB's than I got into that little hole. To cock the rifle you grabbed the barrel and pulled straight back. I remember being able to see the BB's in flight and it wasn't all that accurate since it wasn't rifled. Eventually it would not cock and wound up in the attic somewhere and probably got thrown out when we moved.

Old Crosman guns from the 60's and 70's are neat. Never had the carbine. The ones I ran across were missing the magazine

My favorite was the Crosman 1100 air shotgun. Looks like a Remington 1100. Fun to shoot aluminum cans out of the air

Got one when I was 12. Loved it, shot it a bunch. The barrel cocking was difficult for a kid, and it wasnt all that powerful. Wouldnt break a returnable soda bottle at any distance. but would break old pickle jars and such. Seemed to be built very sturdy. The plastic stock was solid, not hollow, and all steel construction I think.

Below are some pics of mine....I can give you a little info on them.

They came in two flavors really a plastic stocked version, and a wood stocked version, IMHO the plastic stock looks more finished, looks more "real", the wood stock is a little slab sided IMHO.....just missing.

They are cocked by grabbing the barrel and pulling it back then pushing it forward....as a result the barrel usually has the finish worn off and has some surface rust issues where years of hands have cocked the thing.

They are a little difficult to cock, while a great kids sized gun and weight, the cocking force is pretty high....add that to there really is nothing helping you but your grip.

They still have leather seals in them so you can use really any oil with no fear to the o-rings....lube them up and let them sit for a while...the seals usually come back to life and the gun will shoot again.

IIRC mine shoots around 400-ish fps, and was on par for other bb guns of the time.

They are a bit on the collectable side and getting spendy....fun little rifles.

FYI, the Crosman V-350 is the same mechanically but not cosmetically, and can be found for way less money

I had one with the plastic stock and to me, it was the best BB gun ever made. It was accurate enough to shoot daisies of their stems and shoot lizards through the head. I would buy the 5000 BB packs and was always running low on ammo. I shot that BB gun so much I wore out the seals. It got so I could cock it without taking it from my shoulder.

The aperture sights were far and away better than anything the BB guns my brothers or cousins had.

It only held 22 BBs and wasn't the easiest to load and at first, cocking the darn thing was awkward but I learned to adapt (and a lot about muzzle discipline) and it's strengths far out weighed its flaws.

With its solid steel barrel and solid stock, it felt like a real rifle. It was the first BB of my generation and outlasted all the other BB guns in the family. In comparison, all the other BB guns felt like junk. I have a lot of fond memories of my old M1 Carbine BB gun.

I've got a pic of mine, but it's all my air guns. Mine was recently discovered in my Mom's basement and is no longer functioning. Needs work. I had a blast with it as a kid-most had Daisy lever guns. I was the only one with one of these. DSCN0374.JPG

That's funny I just got one for free today. It still shoots with orignal seals and spring. Even with it's old internals it shoots on par with my sons new style daisy 1938b. It is actually a well made BB gun and is easy to service with a flat head srew driver and a hex wrench.

I just ordered a resesl kit and new main spring from bakerairgun.com for the v350-v3500. Thank you for the heads up on then being mechanically the same.

I want to say these old things have leather seals in them, and good old dino oil is just fine in them.....99% sure in saying that.

Plastic or wood stock?

My bud's as a kid was minute of little green army man at 15 feet....what more do you want?

Strangely once I got an M1 Carbine at age 14 my carbine was the one gun of mine he always wanted to shoot.

I personally was gob smacked by his "old Marlin" with long side mounted external adjustment and free recoiling scope, tang mounted micro peep, and those wild turn of the 19th?20th century Marlin buck horn sights on the barrel and in .25-36.

I did like to play with his Crossman though.

Stevie-Ray,

Does the CO2 200 still work? I shot the begeebers out of mine. A local lady insists that is why I like shooting so much. The originals had an adaptor to let you shoot shorter than standard powerlets and when I found what appeared to be hundreds of them at Dad's work place they gave them to me and I used them for over a year many times a week. Turns out they where NO2 rather than CO2 and that lady thinks I got high on shooting for real! I rather doubt it. Whip it out!

They were used in the 50'sfor sending seed samples to FDA And USD Agriculture. Gotta kill them bugs before shipping!

A bud had the rifle and it just wasn't the same to me but they were both fun.
