Mine is pretty nice. Timing is perfect. (I have had to speed up the bolt drop on another I got elsewhere, because it was just barely nicking the notch in the cylinder because the cylinder was starting to turn before the bot was fully clear). I am really debating whether or not to cut this one's barrel down to about 5" or so....

That’s a dandy pistol there @Stophel , I wish Uberti made one with the iron trigger guard. I don’t have anything against the brass guard in particular, just think the iron looks much better.

I don’t know if they would fit but I’ve used the front sight from the 1871 conversions successfully on my short barreled 1860’s. Mine are all Uberti so the Uberti Richards front sight is a snug fit and a dab of red loctite ensures it stays put.

Try 6 inches. I was always a fan of shorter barrels and usually get the pietta sheriff models for their 5.5 inch barrel..except the 1851 sheriffs come with a 4.8-5 inch barrel rather than a true 5.5 as advertised. Dunno why. I once tried a regular 1851 that had the standard 7.5 inch barrel and an 1860 that had an 8 inch barrel..but the owner cut them both down to 6 inches and that was the best size...was so comfortable to aim but also easy to maneuver. Not too long and not too short. Although my 1861 sheriff models came in 5.5 inch...it wasnt as comfortable as the custom 6 inch barrel...it was was weird how only half an inch made such a difference. Others that tried them out felt the same...heck it even looked better. Looked more natural.

I have read many reports (probably several here over the years) of people using the red plastic ring or strip caps. Cut them apart and stick them on the cones. Supposedly, they work fairly well.... not rely-on-them well, but well enough for plinking in the back yard. The general consensus also is that you need real black gunpowder, as the toy caps are often not hot enough for substitutes. I haven't tried this yet, myself, but want to. I just don't ever go anywhere, especially now with the mask nonsense, so I'm never anywhere that I can buy any. It's worth a shot, anyway! so to speak... :p

Mr.woodnbow, btw you might wanna check your mail. your package was delivered 07/13 before 5am at your p.o. box.

I may have to get the cap maker tool....

I don't really want to make caps, but it's something that may become necessary.

Stophel even if you dont make caps itd a great investment and a great tool to have just in case caps become non existent. I also store primer making supplies/ingredients for both caps and to refill and reuse center fire primers. You never know especially with how things are going in the world. There have been cap shortages before.. And i mean like no one had them in stock.

No prob! Wasnt sure if you have a .36 cal but i threw in some lube disks
Yeah, I saw that, I have one .36. A sheriff’s model Colt navy. I’m a sucker for sheriffs Colts... they look just about like the ones I began making after reading your tutorial. Well, I didn’t have any.36 discs so now I am forced to shoot the Navy!

Theyre a stiffer gatofeo mix. A ratio of equal parts by weight. Not sure what mix you use so just sent something that should work in amy environment. Wasnt sure if you had tried lube disks or not so i figured id send just in case.

Look in toy section of stores. The cap gun caps that come in round string in red plastic will do in a pinch.
White head off a strike anywhere match under formed aluminum foil will do too.

Don't buy ring caps from the dollar store. My sweet hart last weekend though it would be cute to buy me a cap gun and caps to play with from the dollar store at least three caps on every ring were duds.

I was at sportsman's warehouse last week they had two cans of Remington #11 caps for 5.99 and Speer 451 RBs for 9.00 so snapped them up. I am not paying 9.00 for caps. I will shoot my NMA with small pistol primers and my colts with homemade caps.
