Anyone in Portland OC this weekend?

I'm curious. Did anyone in the Portland Metro area OC to support the grassroots OC movement? If so, I'm curious as to what if any reactions you got to it. I personally don't feel comfortable with it yet, but have been giving it a bunch of thought. I would be particularly interested if someone OC'd on the Max train.
 
I doubt there were many participants - the City of Portland (and Beaverton for that matter) has an ordinance against open carry of any firearms. I guarantee the cops would be on you like stink on you-know-what for OCing on the Max given the problems we've had. When I first moved here from the east side of the state I almost got a ticket just for having a shotgun in the gun rack of my pickup!

I for one am not willing to stake my CHL just to make a statement about open carry.
 
I agree with you regarding endangering my CHL, but I have seen in other posts that the Portland and Beaverton ordinances are in violation of state law. I am very curious if anyone who has been arrested for open carry in either Portland or Beaverton has gone to court to challenge those ordinances.
 
I actually ended up OCing in Clackamas on the 4th, but only because I was hunting a mole with a .22LR revolver. Didn't get the chance to educate any of my fellow citizens, and the mole decided to leave about the time I showed up, so I didn't get to practice my draw-and-fire-straight-into-the-ground technique, either.
 
the Portland law against OC does NOT apply to those with an Oregon CHL. If you dont have a CHL, then it is illegal, and is NOT in conflict with state law, so you would be breaking the law, and have no legal leg to stand on. As far as doing it with a permit, which is legal, I have never personaly done it, but I have never been to Portland, and likely never will.There are some members here who have OC'd (with a CHL) in Portland with no issues though. Portland has been smacked down in the courts more than a few times, so I hear they have wised up a lot.Hopefully Lonnie Wilson will see this and give you some better detail, and personall experiances.Pretty sure he has done it more than a few times, and he is very active for RKBA in the Pac NW, so he will have a lot of first hand, and second hand info on it than I do.

did they happen to say why they almost gave you a ticket for something that 100% legal in the entire state, with no permit needed? Heck, long guns dont even have to be unloaded when in the window rack. That said, in this day and age, I would not leave a gun unattended in a vehicle, in the open in most places.Likely to dissappear quickly when some meth head see's it.YMMV in some areas though
 
The Multnomah County Sheriff's office and my CHL instructor both made it very clear that if a CHL holder gets a number of calls from frightened citizens who see their weapon, they can revoke your permit. I haven't actually read the statute that supposedly bans OC in Portland, I'll try to look it up.

The shotgun incident was in the late 80s about 2 weeks after I moved to PDX. It was loaded and in the rear window rack. The officer who stopped us told us that we cannot do that in Portland. I was 21 and didn't argue, happy to not get cited or the gun taken away.
 
I too, would like to know if anyone has carried on Max. I ride it (and ALWAYS C/C on Max) almost every day to and from work. I would love to O/C on it from time to time, but I fear the Po-Po's response.

That's why I specifically asked about Max. With what has been happening at Max stops lately there is no way I would ride Max with out carrying, but I have always carried concealed. I have heard Tri-met has tried to tell people it is illegal to carry concealed on any Tri-met bus or train and they will call to have the police harass you if they somehow find out you are carrying. Anyone have any personal experience with this? IANAL, but I would think because they receive public funding, they couldn't legally tell you you can't carry.

Ah. maybe the law was different then, either state or local for Portland.I just mved here 2.5 years ago, so thats very possible.Also, I'm not sure if state premption counts for long guns, now that I think about it, so even now, having a loded long gun in some cities may be illegal.I knwo it's fine by state law, but like I said, premeption may not cover that. Just wanted to mention that now that i thought about it more. dont want to give anyone bad info on loaded long guns and get them into trouble.
