Anyone knows the details of the Times Square shooting?

NEW YORK (AP) -- The dance floor of a Times Square nightclub became the site of a panicked melee when someone opened fire on the crowd, hitting eight people, and another man slashed two others with a knife, police said.

This is unreal, almost like listening to daily news in Israel. I hope this is not terrorism but there is no theory yet as far as I know.

My thoughts:
Impossible.
Handguns are all but illegal in NYC (with a few elitist exceptions), so this couldn't have happened.

From reading the New York Post, this was two gangs from near by Rockaway housing project. "Reacting to a perceived diss, a man pulled out a 9 mm pistol and opened fire in the jam-packed club. "
Another all too frequent occurrence of blacks killing each other for no apparent reason (other than "a perceived diss.")
