Anyone recall...

..seeing those cartridges w/ plastic bodies? The upper half is plastic and the bottom half is brass. I've seen it advertised on gun rags during the early 90's and then it just disappeared. Anyone tried those?

I saw some in the 1970s

When I was a good friend and top salesman for the Ca. Saeco co in the late 1970s Bob the owner showed me a proto type cartridge he was asked to make press in bullets for. They had a plastic body and a brass head holding the primer and they took a bullet with a recessed base that could be pushed in. They were in 38 caliber and were under testing by the government.

He also showed me some very pointed bullets that were for a large pistol that actually fired a small rocket about 45 to 50 caliber. I have some samples of both of them buried in my ranch barn somewhere.

I've got some.

I suspect the onset of inexpensive reloading gear in the early 80's made the idea moot. IIRC, their claim to fame was inexpensive at home reloading. Lee and, later, Dillon put the nails in that coffin.

IIRC, they are made in Italy. I'll try to remember this thread and take a look at them when I get home.

To those who tried, how did it perform?
I think it might have been a good carry rounds coz they're lighter. As for reloading, if the cases are translucent its easy to see if it got powder in it. all is needed is a flashlight to verify . Oh well...Its dead for a reason I guess.
