I just mailed my packet out for CWP in Florida this morning and I'm trying to get an idea on the wait time right now. I know a few months ago there was a huge backlog. Has anyone received theirs recently...how long from the day you mailed it in until you got it back??

Thanks guys!!

Sent my packet out mid July, have not received my permit yet. I haven't called but I have heard you can expect 3 months at a minimum and 5 months as a maximum.

WOW!!!!!!! I wish I would have known about that this morning :( I am going to contact the Miami office 2moro to see if I can still do it that way. Even if I have to pay the $117 again I really don't want to have to wait indefinetly if I don't have to. Thanks for the lead. :)

Dude I just made a thread about the same thing like a week ago. It only took them like two months. Sent stuff in on june 25th got permit august 18th.

Just took a look at your thread...I had not seen it. Hmm...so two months isn't that bad. I wonder if they are even more caught up now. The class I took included a finger print card so that's what I sent in...I wonder if that will delay mine more than your two months with electronic prints.

I wish I would have known about the new way. I contacted the Miami office and said I was willing to "donate" (loose) the first $117 I sent in if I could start over with the new system but the supervisor said he would not suggest a duplicate application...but that it was my call if I wanted to give it a try.

My agency does electronic fingerprinting for CCP's in FL.

A year ago the ratio of people being printed was probably 70% other / 30% CWP
Today it's mmore like 60% CWP - 40% other.

With the budget shortfalls in the state, expect longer than usual processing time.

YMMV ;)

There was a write-up in the Tallahassee Democrat several months ago interviewing Charles Bronson. He indicated that they had significantly more applications and less people processing them...

I suppose there isn't a way to speed up the renewal of an out of state resident's license? Fortunately mine doesn't come due until next year.

I thought the new folks were already hired and working on the backlog...that's what my instructor told me...but then again he was unaware of the new system so....

You guys consider yourselves lucky. I have a buddy that submitted his paperwork and money back in April. The packet was placed into the "system" in June. He last called a couple weeks ago and they said it will be another 30 to 45 days.
He should have gotten his permit when I got mine a couple years ago. It only took about 3-1/2 weeks back then.:)

I sent my out of state renewal package in mid-August and already have my new license. They even sent it despite the fact the FBI kicked back my print card as "unreadable". My permit was still good for 30 days and would be suspended if I didn't send in the second card, which I did. Never heard back if it was good or not. Doesn't matter anyway because as long as you pass the background check and submitted two cards, you "did your part". Their words. Besides, if they REALLY need a good set of prints for a shooting in FL or something? They WILL get them then. Besides, it's not like the two "bad" cards are unusable. They can easily tell it's the same person. The prints are probably 90%+ good to go with one or two small things.

Don't know about initial applications. I would imagine they do take longer.

I have spoken to a couple of the folks at the Regional Offices in Miami and West Palm and I was told that I could go in and start over again with the new "expedited system". I would have to write a letter saying I wanted to cancel the initial "paper" application but that I would not be able to get a refund of the fees and would have to pay over again.

Assuming I don't end up making the matter worse and do actual get it in a week or two with the new system I would consider paying twice but I just do not want any further issues just because I want to take advantage of the new system. What do you guys think?

This is a new application...Florida just started up a new "expedited system" in which instead of mailing a packet off to Tallahassee....you visit a regional office where you fill the application on a computer (instead of a bubble in sheet), enter your fingerprints electronically, pay the same $117 and get the license MUCH faster. See here: http://floridashootersnetwork.com/ph...p?f=36&t=61512

update:

i sent my packet out in mid july and i received my license in the mail today. so roughly 2 months 2 weeks (a few days less actually) to get it. i did the electronic fingerprints and i am also military so i did not need to attend a course, not sure if that sped the process up or slowed it down.

SFB, was that an initial application or a renewal? I remember my initial taking a couple of months, but this last renewal only took about two weeks.

scotthsi - that was an initial application. i am also a florida resident, not sure if that has any bearing on the application process or not.

2-3 months sounds about right. I lived in Florida, too, when I did my initial application.

SFB...thanks for the update. Well, two months sure beats 6+ months.

They cashed my check on the 18th so I will update the thread also once I get mine as well.

what the expedited process is producing is about 1-3 week wait !

Orlando just opened an office as well.

if you do it the old school way even with electronic printing it takes 3-6 months!

Not for SFB and myself, both an initial and renewal application respectively. ;)
