I have seen a few mounts that look promising, but was wondering if anyone is running their AR this way, or have the standard handguards given way to quad rails and Magpul MOE's? Is it really worth swapping out the original handguards to go with something like a MOE or quadrail if that is all you want to do?

Midwest Industries makes a mount that attaches to the front sight triangle. The a light like a Surefire X200 or X300 can be slipped on when desired.

I have one - not too bad. Personally I don't like rails, expect for the purpose of floating the barrel on longer range precision guns. I do like OEM plastic handguards and this is one way of keeping them.

I've seen a few people on my dept that have the original handgaurds and have either taped or used a velcro strap to hold a light to the handgaurd. I don't think this looks very reliable. I run the MOE, and I have a surefire Super Tac attached to it. Bese set up and light hands down IMO

Magpul MOE is awesome. I highly recommend these. Not too difficult to install. They are cheap and they look good as well. I was asking this same question a couple of years ago.

For carbine length, I like the front sight mount as well.
