Anyone use Birchwood Casey gun stock wax?

I tried it on a couple of older rifles and despite following the directions (apply thin coat, polish and rub until dry) it seems to leave a light whitish residue... any tips? I've had to really rub hard to get it off and in my view the stock looks worse/more dull now than when I started.

i used it a few times with good results but i prefer johnsons paste wax.
