CCI military primers have shorter feet on the anvil to decrease the primers sensitivity to slam fires. so standard firing pin impacts from revolvers are not strong enough to ignite them. Stick with standard rifle primers.
Yeah, stock gun. I have a ton of cci military primers, so i thought "hey, this will save me some money". whoops, wrong for me to think. Guess i shoulda remembered the old diver saying "neck to the deck, we aint payin ya to think"
Interesting discovery but I was under the impression that the .454 cartridge uses small MAGNUM primers. That's what my Lyman 49th Edition recommends IIRC. I bought 2,000 of the little buggers specifically for my Ruger SRH Alaskan.
Heck I use CCI#41's in my AR's with outstanding accuracy and function out to 600 yards.
I am curious to know, are these primers lower in the case head than your "standard" primers?
Is your rifle leaving shallow firing pin indentations?
CCI#41's primers are less sensitive than their standard primers. But I cannot understand why a rifle mechanism, especially a 19th century mechanism with an exposed hammer, would have a problem igniting the things. These old designs have lots of hammer strike energy.

This may be of no help at all but I installed lighter hammer springs from www.longhunt.com in all three of my Marlin lever actions, a '94 (.45 Colt) and a pair of '95s (.45-70). The .45 Colt with the lighter spring works just fine with CCI large pistol magnum primers (350) or Winchester WLP primers. However, both '95s were unreliable with lighter springs and CCI large rifle primers (200) with numerous FTFs. After switching both '95s back to the factory hammer springs I had zero issues with primers.
The OP states that the springs in his 92 are factory but perhaps the hammer spring is marginal. If there's any way to add a spacer to increase the "k" value of the spring then the military primers may work yet.
The primers look identical seated next to regular srp. I used regular small rifle primers in the past with good results in my 454 loadings. The primer looks just barely dented. I will try to post some pics
