I was thinking of picking up a kit like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/223-5-56-RI...670?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e7e6b201e
Anyone have any experience with em?

How likely is it my barrel is scratched due a brass rod scraping the inside of the bore for about a foot till I realized it had broken and was scraping against the rifling. I've looked through it at a light and with a snake light and have not seen any actual gouges as far as I can tell. After all the brass is much softer than chrome steel, but I hear guys talking about scratching the rifling of their guns all the time.

watch the tiborasaurus rex videos on youtube, particularly the one about how the surface of the steel changes chemically and from heat as a result of firing, and how it's different than the rest of the steel.

"chrome moly" steel isn't the same as chrome lining

Add some pipe cleaners and it will be all set.

I have about 9 or 10 of those kits and they work just fine for cleaning an AR, as that is what they were designed to clean.
