I have a hankering for an AR-15 in the "original" format, i.e., no forward assist, three prong flash hider, triangular handguards, fixed carry handle, etc. I have looked around and found rifles available with some of those features, but none with all of them (the notable exception being triangular handguards, which I can't find anywhere).

Anybody know where I can find such a rifle?

You are most likely looking for a Colt SP1. The good thing is they are out there, the bad thing is the amount of green backs you'll have to shell out and it is only chambered in .223 not 5.56. They are always on gunbroker.com and auctionarms.com. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, guys. I took a look at the Fulton Armory site and they have what I am looking for, but I did a search on Fulton Armory since I am not familiar with them, and, ah, let's just say the feedback isn't good.

Not sure I want to go the build-it route, but the No-Dak is an interesting idea.

Other ideas always welcome.

You gotta be kidding. Fulton is one of the best around.

I have one of their M14s and one of their "retro" ARs.

They are a great company to do business with.

People are pissed because M14 receivers are nonexistent at the moment. Fultons just as mad as anyone, LRB too.

Anyone in the market for a good M14 is mad and it doesnt seem to have a light at the end of the tunnel.

But, Fulton as a company is top notch.

I'm currently assembling something along the lines of what you're looking for. My particular effort is being built along the lines of a 604/Air Force model.

Parts I'm using include:

• 20" barrel with triangular handguards and three prong flash hider from CMMG
• Slick side (no forward assist) A1 upper receiver and A1 hand grip from Fulton Armory (they also have A1 buttstocks)
• XM16E1 lower receiver from NoDak Spud
• Anodizing of upper, charging handle, trigger guard, mag release button, sight windage wheel and port door to match the NoDak lower's XM Grey by US Anodizing
• Flat delta ring, small rectangle port door, round sight post, dimpled selector switch and ramped bolt catch from various purveyors of retro parts on Arfcom's Equipment Exchange
• A1 buttstock w/o trap door from Moore Militaria

While I'm not using one, you can also get a slick side chromed bolt carrier from Fulton Armory. There are a few other sources (like Retro Black Rifle); I've just listed the ones I've used. As mentioned above, Arfcom's retro forum can be a great source of info and suppliers.

Mine awaits the arrival of parts right now:

I'll post a pic in a week or so when it's complete.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this - I have been out of town on business.

I did a search on this forum, and came up with a couple of threads showing some disappointment with the business practices of the company. I know you can't believe everything you read on the internet, but until this thread, I hadn't found anything really positive either.

In the mean time, I'll check out the retro forum.
