AR bipod

I was looking at bipods for an AR-15 and don't really feel like paying $60 for the bipod and $30 for some adaptor. So, what are some less expensive bipods that still quality pieces? And about the adapter, for an AR with regular handguards are they required? A bipod that attached to the bayonet lug would be nice but haven't found anything like it.

Do you really need a bipod for a fighting carbine? If you don't need it except for looks, I'd suggest that you spend your $ on something else.

Whatever you decide to do, NEVER attach a bipod to the bayo lug (directly to the barrel). This only contributes to warping the barrel by applying stress to the barrel. Certainly won't help you get better groupings. Only use bipods that attach to the handguard, or better yet a free-floated handguard. These adapters only cost $12.95 from Fulton Armory.

I attached a harris bipod to my Stag Varminter without an adaptor.

I am not using the gun for a fighting carbine, and how it looks is not very important to me. I just want something to make it a little easier to shoot.

I have seen a Bayonet mount AR bipod, found it at Tick Bite Supply almost all the way down this page -

And don't forget, the good old fashioned, military issued, clamp to the barrel surplus bipods you can still get for $10-15
