.300 BO is around $0.70 per round; 7.62x39 is around $0.22 per round.

The answer comes at a steep premium.

But if you reload it's pretty cheap, mine run about .36 cents a piece and made out of once fired .223 cases.

Agreed with TIMC, if you reload, 300 blk is surely the way. I mean, you can go from 110gr - 240gr thats versatility my friend! Reloading the 300 blk is easy too, and there are recipes all over including free data from Sierra and Nosler.

.300 has its following, and I'm one of them. I built one for subsonic suppressed only. The other reason why I built an AR in 7.62x39 is ammo availabilty in the SHTF scenario. I like the fact that I have several rifles in the AR platform and if uncommon ammo such as 6.8 and .300 go away, .223 and 7.62x39 may still be around. Also, spare parts from those AR's in those rifles where ammo is no available is a benefit to have.

Now I know, some will say whatever about the "SHTF scenario" but my collection serves 2 purposes. Real world shooting and "what if" survival. Diversity in those calibers benefits both purposes.

Funny though, because I just purchases an AK in 7.62x39....
