AR FCG function test fail

Im assembling another lower. I have installed the FCG (numerous times) and on the function check it cocks fine, releases the hammer fine but when I keep the trigger pulled to check the disconnect, the hammer doesnt catch. The disconnector spring is installed properly with the big side down, firmly in place. I have checked everything in the FCG for correct installment over and over. If I press down really hard on the hammer, sometimes it will catch but it isnt smooth and there is feedback on the trigger when I do it. Thoughts? Would it be safe to try to take a coil out of the disco spring? Or did I just get a bad FCG? Its a PSA.

How well does the disconnector travel in the trigger without the disconnector spring in place?

Thanks, but it is resolved. I stopped in my tracks when it failed the function check. Swapped out 2 other FCG's, same problem. I was convinced I had an out of spec lower... Then I put the safety in... problem solved...:banghead:
