I wasn't sure which forum to post this question in, reloading, smithing or rifle.
Has anyone rebarreled their AR for 6,6.5 or 7mm TCU?
From my research they are used by pistol silhouette shooters primarily. I began thinking about building a dedicated upper after I heard about the military trying out a 6.8x45 cartridge to replace the 5.56x45 in some aspects.
For my purposes I thought that the 6.5 120 grain Nosler ballistic tips, BC of .458!, would be a whole lotta fun out of an AR. I hoped I could get about 2600fps out of a 20" barrel. That would give me,within a few inches, the same trajectory as the 55grain FMJ 223 round, just a hair flatter than the 62 grain fmj.
I think this conversion would make the AR a viable deer and antelope rifle.
Does anyone have any data on the 6.5 TCU out of a 20" barrel?
