With the uncertainty over the future legality of AR pistols with arm braces would it be legal to convert a pistol to a rifle by changing to a rifle upper and using a longer stock? I can't think of a reason why not, but not all laws make sense.

I bought a 10" Ruger AR pistol about a year ago and don't like it as much as I thought I would. I'm thinking about doing a conversion to be proactive in case they are deemed illegal in the future. Or simply selling the pistol now. I could sell now for more than I paid, and I have other AR rifles.

You can change to a rifle as long as the upper never has a shorter than 16" barrel while attached to the lower with a stock on it. So take the two halves apart and install the stock, and put rifle upper on lower. Pistol uppers sell reasonably well, you may even find someone to trade upper with you.

I will say that the ar pistol has always been legal, so I seriously doubt that they will be made illegal as long as we have guns, but if you are worried about the pistol brace, you could just take it off.

Yea, I figured taking the arm brace off would remove any doubt about it being legal. But to be honest I just don't want to go that way. And was fairly certain it would be OK to add a 16" upper and butt stock. I have an extra butt stock and can get another upper reasonably cheap. I may decide to sell the pistol upper, but that is down the road.
