Hey guys,
I'm building my first ARs (two of em) and I'm fitting a 50 caliber upper on one of them too. So one of the lower recievers will regularly be fitted with an AR 15 upper (5.56) and will periodically get switched out to the 50 cal upper. My question is this:

I've been leaning towards a few triggers that I've heard good things about, but I'm not sure. I want to either get an Accuracy Speaks or KAC trigger or maybe even a Heavy mass Jard trigger. The reason I even bring up the Jard is because the 50 Cal upper specifically mentions this trigger as consistently working with it. No mention is given of the Accuracy SPeaks or KAC trigger system.

I've heard great things about both Accuracy speaks and KAC, but I've heard some (my gunsmith) say that Jards are absolute junk for a survival rifle. I don't care about match triggers or competing with my rifles, I just want a trigger system that I can reliably go "bang" every time, but ALSO give me a nicer trigger system than the standard GI trigger.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i'm a big fan of KAC, but... i'd pass on their trigger

I have a Timeny drop in trigger in my AR, and it is far better than the standard mil spec one. I have heard good things about the KAC, but also that because they have a gov contract it is about impossible to find them. So i have never used one.... The Timeny runs about $200, it is a complete drop in. There are other good cheaper triggers, RRAs two stage NM, a chip mcormic, ect. They will all serve you well.

I just built up a lower that's been sitting around. Used a regular Bushmaster bag-o-parts lower kit.

The basic service trigger from Bushmaster feels great. I want to replace another one with it, now.

Short of the $150-300 for a fancy trigger, I think it's a really good one.

What is a "quality mil spec trigger"? What brand, where do you buy it from and will it break under 12 lbs? Preferably in the 4.5 lbs range. THanks guys

Seriously: try the Bushmaster. It was almost glass-smooth, right out of the bag. I don't have a scale, but 4.5 lbs. sounds close.

Actually, the trigger pull on a regular Stag trigger isn't much heavier, it just isn't so nice and smooth. After a few thousand rounds (.22LR upper), mine feels okay, but the Bushmaster feels a lot better right away.

First: go to the website of the upper builder and see if they have a public forum for their owners to discuss their product. If they don't..............

Second: Change to an upper where they care about customer service and have a forum to talk about their product, and ask their members. If you don't want to change uppers......

Third: Go to www.bohicaarms.com join their internet forum and express interest in buying one of their uppers and ask a bunch of questions. You will get answers, and be pointed to this topic which has been beat to death over there. Those guys have tried just about everything and know how to make the things work right.

+1 on the Timney. i have 3 of them now and they are by far the best trigger ive messed around with.

Take a look at the "JP Rifles" trigger and hammer. They are very well made. You can set them up from a 2# target type to a very good 4-5# mil type.

The Jard does not use standard springs and when I set a couple of them up with their "tactical" ie standard weight springs they would not reset reliably partly due to the poor finish on the disconnector surface of the hammers.

I replaced my Bushmaster trigger with an adjustable 2 stage jewel and couldnt ask for more

ya, your ar trigger is the lightest, most crisp ar trigger ive seen, even better than your accu-trigger on that bolt action target one you have

I have a Timney drop in trigger in my AR too and it's excellent. I got the skeletonized trigger version with the 3lb pull since the solid version was on backorder. I like the Timney because it has zero creep ... and by that I mean ZERO creep. It is adjustable but I left it at the factory setting of 3lb. I'm building another AR and will be ordering another Timney trigger for it.

:)

they are pretty dang crisp, but also delicate and prone to breaking. i still have one in my NRA HP service rifle

bonedust and 1858 have you put those Timneys on lowers that are dedicated to a .50 BMG like the OP asked?

I did not think so. Timney does not have a good reputation for hitting hard enough to fire military primers.

Go to dedicated .50 BMG forums for the best technical information on the .50 BMG. Or at least talk to people who have them.
