Hi, I am thinking of getting my first ar-15 and am new to the whole field of semi-auto rifles. I was thinking of getting a stripped lower and this:

I have a couple of questions about this setup"
1) I was thinking of scoping it with a 3-9 or 4-16 x at least 40. I am wanting something with a drop compensator on the reticule. Where can I find one of these and what grain 223 are the set for?

2) With a standard 9"-13" bipod on the front, will the 30 round mag sit ok for prone position, or do you have to shoot 20 rounders?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, the mag will work, probably better with the bipod extended, but what I've found it, you kind of have to be ready to adjust to anyhting in the field. You might be leaning over the perfect perch in one case, and then have to crawk to another where your prone position has a rock right where you want to put that magazine. I have made a habit of carrying a 5 or 10 rd mag just in case, but remember in a tactical envirionment, that is not an option, 30 rd G.I. only. You kind of learn just to make it work.

There are a few ranging reticles, remember that you are not only looking at the bullet load, but also the uppers you are looking at are shorter barrels, which will also affect POI.

I would look at scopes that are set up for variable bullets and trajectories in general, not just for the .223. I had read about the Leupold VX III with adjustable, interchangeable reticles, so I googled it and came up with this, hope it helps. Scroll down to the paragraphs titled: Varmint Hunter's Reticle.

Mljdeckard is right, I know for a fact a 30rd will work because i have the same rifle setup. something to keep in mind, I live in NY, I'm not sure what the laws are else where, but i can't hunt, even woodchucks and fox with more than 6 rounds of ammo in a center fire rifle. never stopped me before but you may want to think it over...I just know the DEC is never around my ranch to stop me

Does anyone have any experience with the BSA Sweet .223??? I wan't wanting to spend over 200 on a scope.
