Hey telewinz,

Do a search!! Not like this hasn't been covered a hundred times here!

Oh, wait a min...
Never mind.

You guys just could not avoid this topic, could you? Scatterin' yer AR/AK mess all over my deck. Clean it up when yer done playin'.

:p

Figured the mature answer...

was to buy one of each.

So now I have two of each. Go figure. ;)

AR, simply because an M16A1 was the sweetest rifle I've ever had the pleasure of qualifying "Expert" with and ALL the innumerable AK-47 rounds fired at me missed. :D

Well...I've had little green tracers flying back at me while sending little red tracers back at them.

I'd say I was equally afraid to get hit with either.

Good SHooting
Red

Neither the ARs nor the AKs are battle rifles. They're more like carbines in size but with way more firepower.

Man, neck and neck at 13 each as I voted.

AR for accuracy and AK for cheapness. I've personally found both to be extremely reliable for semi-autos but if my life were on the line, I feel more comfortable with the AR.

AK series, Never failed on me.

The AR-15/M-16 series has failed on me MANY times.

Nothing sours you on a tool like it breaking when you really need it.

Sure....no problem.

"AK for cheapness"
Which part is cheap, the ammo or the rifle ? I see this posted a lot and always wondered. I see AKs close in price to the lower end ARs. I haven't bought 7.62x39 ammo in many years so I don't know what it costs, but I am buying Wolf .223 for under $3.00 for a box of twenty. I am well into my second case and have yet to have a malfunction.

I have never been in combat and I think the odds of hitting the powerball are better than my ever being in combat but for my purposes I much prefer the AR. I have owned one AK semi auto and thought it was decent. I wish I still owned it. But I am not willing to spend any AR money on another one. The AR is definiely a much more versitile platform. You can switch uppers at will. You can add accessories such as optics or lights pretty much at will. Accuracy is no comparison. Reliability for me is a non issue. I have never had reliablility problems with either rifle and under the conditions I use the rifles in, I don't expect to. If I had a problem with my AR, I can buy spare parts from thousands of venders and installing them is no problem. But, if I did have a problem I would use the spare parts I already have. I could change out the bolt with my spare in less than a minute easily.

Nothing like a good AR vs. AK thread to start things off right.
