"AK for cheapness"
Which part is cheap, the ammo or the rifle ? I see this posted a lot and always wondered. I see AKs close in price to the lower end ARs. I haven't bought 7.62x39 ammo in many years so I don't know what it costs, but I am buying Wolf .223 for under $3.00 for a box of twenty. I am well into my second case and have yet to have a malfunction.
I have never been in combat and I think the odds of hitting the powerball are better than my ever being in combat but for my purposes I much prefer the AR. I have owned one AK semi auto and thought it was decent. I wish I still owned it. But I am not willing to spend any AR money on another one. The AR is definiely a much more versitile platform. You can switch uppers at will. You can add accessories such as optics or lights pretty much at will. Accuracy is no comparison. Reliability for me is a non issue. I have never had reliablility problems with either rifle and under the conditions I use the rifles in, I don't expect to. If I had a problem with my AR, I can buy spare parts from thousands of venders and installing them is no problem. But, if I did have a problem I would use the spare parts I already have. I could change out the bolt with my spare in less than a minute easily.
Nothing like a good AR vs. AK thread to start things off right.
