I recently decided to build an ar10.
I have built ar15's before but never an ar10. I plan on using a 20 inch barrel and was trying to figure out what twist rate I should use. I'll be using a .308 caliber setup. Any suggestions would be great and any other recommendations would help to.

1:10 would be what I would go with.

My Armalite's or 1:11.25 they really like 168g and down, seem to like 150-155 best.

What is your preferred bullet to shoot?
The answer to this question will decide the answer for the other.

1:10 will shoot almost everything accurately

Too fast isn't as much of a problem as too slow of a twist.

    I'd go 1:10

What do you want to do with the rifle?

Thank you gentlemen for replying. I plan on using between grain 155 to 168. I want to use the rifle for long range shooting.
1:10 twist ratio seems the way to go. Thanks.

If you insist on 308 in an LFAR for long range then 24” 1:10”. I’d strongly recommend 6 GT or 6.5 creed over 308 to make your own life easier.

I used a 20” Ballistic Advantage 1-10 barrel, and have gotten to 900 yards(longest distance available)with 168 and 175 grain SMK. This particular barrel didn’t like 150 grain bullets at all.

I like my 18.5" MP10. I wouldn't want anything heavier for walking use. I walk a few miles at a time when deer hunting. Most (All) 20" AR10s I know are pigs. When I say Pig, I mean @ over 9lbs scoped with a loaded mag. My 16" Armalite AR10 (Mark Westrom Pre forward assist) feels like the MP10 but is a 16". It is chrome lined, and sub moa accurate for three shots on a cold barrel. Or even a warm barrel. And that is with a Redfield 2-7 scope. But it carries and balances well. IIRC it is 1:11 twist while the MP is 1:10. twist. They are on the left. 28252.jpeg
