I recently had the opportunity to shoot my AR15 at 475 yards and it was awesome! Seeing the bullet trace and the sound delay after hitting the steel has me hooked! So naturally I'm wanting to push it out further to 600 yards. I was using factory ammo at 475 and was doing pretty good. However for 600, I would like to try some factory match grade ammo.

I'll be shooting this out of a 1:7 twist. I have been looking at Hornady 75 grain 5.56.
Please post your favorite factory match 223/5.56

Here I am connecting on a 12 inch plate at 475 :D

nice trigger control

at first i thought, "man, my steel makes a ding not a click" then i realized what that sound was.

yeah, that's why i don't let people shoot steel core at my steel. if you get water jet cut steel the edges will still have the proper temper and won't be as prone to chip like that. plasma cutting...not so much

Ditto on the Blue Box 77 SMK.

If you ever get around to handloading:

75 Hornady or 77 Sierra MK
24.0-24.5 gr Varget
Federal SR Match primer
Winchester commercial brass

Shoots bug-holes @100yds with my 20inch DD w/FN 1:7 barrel, 3-9x Leupold

It should do very well with yours.

Good luck

If it shoots good at 475 it will shoot good at 600. I had the misfortune of finding out the factory match ammo I was using for 100 yard reduced course did not work at all at longer range. Now I reload my own and can only blame myself if the shot's not in the x ring.

My buddy and I always throw some 5.56 at our long range targets when we are shooting the 308s. Our rifles have an Aimpoint and an EOTech so we don't have a whole lot of hits.

However we have found that 55 and 62 grain ball is perfectly fine out to 550 yards but starts hitting sideways at 750 yards out of 16 inch barrels. If your rifle shoots what you have good I'd bet you'll have no problems at 600.

For match ammo I have used Black Hills 77 grn and Hornady 75 grn. Both shot well. I have used M262 in the Army and it's also good ammo.
