I can tell you with certainty that DPMS and RRA make far more than that. There is a .gov website, I'd assume ATF, that wil tell you the number of guns manufactured by each company in America, and it's yearly.

Those numbers are not true numbers of production rate because they only count BATF registered AR sales in the US. They don't not included US military and foreign contract sales. For instance about 1 year ago Colt was making 800 M4, M16 AR ect, per working day. Figuring 20 working days in a month Colt would be making close to 16,000 rifles a month!

Running man you bring up a good point, but he asked about AR-15, not the M-16, M-4 and AR but in a strait production count over all Colt crushes every one. For ARs (retail and LE) Bushmaster is top of AR at about 700 a day, DPMS is second at 500 they are the only 2 I know for sure.

This includes Bushmaster making the Rem R-15s And DPMS making the R-25s

are they actually made by bushmaster and dpms? or are they just owned by the same company?

the reason i ask is some time ago there was an older gentleman having problems with an r-15 next to me at the range. turns out it was his 1st ar and was brand new and very dry. upon my inspection (i stripped it and lubed it for him) it didnt seem to even be close to the quality of my bushmasters. granted they are older models than his was.

i didnt say anything to him about it. it wouldnt have been appropriate, and would have hurt his feelings. it did run better after getting slicked up, but it sure didnt feel like mine.

Sorry this is nor the case. These guns are pretty much standard BM and DPMS with a different Roll mark and Camo applied.

DPMS and Bushmaster make all of Remingtons Rifles.

I was just corrected on the above information. My apologies. Back when I was a wholesaler It was my understanding from my Remington Rep that these were going to be complete DPMS guns just re branded. That is the information I was going on.

Colt Defense may have been doing that, but the numbers reported are for Colt Manufacturing, which, legally speaking is a seperate company.

I seem to remember that a large number of Bushmaster semi-auto AR-15 types were in Georgian hands during the recent war between Russia and Georgia courtesy of Uncle Sam. I wonder if these rifles count in these statistics?

According to last statistics I read Bushmaster then DPMS are the worlds largest manufacturers of AR15/M16 type rifles. This was true before they were both bought by the same company, also before Remington was bought by the same company
The R15 is a Bushmaster with Remington specific parts and features.
The R25 is a DPMS with Remington specific parts and features.
I havent checked Colts production statistics yet, but their primary production was M4s for military contracts from around the world.
Remember that a few big companies make most of the parts for most of the other companies.
Id say Colt, Bushmaster, DPMS, CMMG, LMT, manufacture complete rifles on their own, very few others do more than make specific parts only.
Ive heard that maybe 6 companies actually manufacture complete rifles on their own, and supply the rest of the companies with most of what they use.

Don't forget, the BATFE list is the number produced PER FACILITY, not per company. Bushmaster has at least three such facilities, and others have mulriples as well.

In 2006 or so (before the recent sales surge), I went through the list and identified ~30 AR manufacturers collectively producing close to a quarter million per year, as I recall. I'm sure the production numbers are significantly higher now.
