Are Dormice hunted/trapped for food in Europe?

Looking up what Dormice are since I always read that the Romans consider them to be a delicacy, I wonder if some parts of Europe still eat them?

Strange as this may sound, in the UK Dormice are actually protected even through they are pests that are known to cause house fires by chewing on wires...

Sorry the hazel dormice are the native species of the UK and the edible dormice are the pest causing house fires by chewing on wires....

Consequently when my Dad bought me one,,,
Mom placed a LOT of rules as to it's use.

One of them was,,,
If I killed something with it,,,
I then had to cook and eat the thing.

We've discussed what the Romans ate. They thought Peacock tongues were a delicacy too. Just 'cause the Romans ate it isn't an excuse with her.

I guess that would depend on how the rat was prepared. I've had it boiled. It was a very lean, white meat. Don't recall it having much flavor.

Rat-tat-touille is a Peasant dish made of veggies, prepared by trained rats and cooked by humans. Didn't you the film?

According to the Wikipedia they are still considered a delicacy in Slovenia and Croatia, both are in Europe.
You don't hunt them. You catch them, raise and fatten them for the table, and save some to continue breeding..., like domestic rabbits.
