Are gun sales going down

On a non fear driven point.

I was in my LGS (Ace Hardware) on Saturday and a customer asked the guy working in sporting goods if gun sales were down.
The salesman said, no sales will go up and down a little through the year.
He said, right now there up a little. Guys are getting there tax returns and spending them on new toys. He also mentioned, most of their gun sales are people who have a fair amount of disposable income 🤔.
I laughed a little bit! What was the last firearm that I bought that I truly needed. 😂😂😂 lots of years ago. I would say 2010-2011 when I got my ccw. A 642 it was easier to conceal than a 629 with a 8 3/8".

It’s also an example of the stupidity of the general public – a panic both unwarranted and devoid of merit; an imagined fear of ‘bans’ wound never happen.
The Obama panic was rooted in them recent political history.

The Clinton AWB just expired in 2004. By 2008, Republican control of Congress seemed undoable. Obama campaigned heavily on re-establishing the AWB with no sunset provisions.

GWB was hated and tainted the entire Republican campaign. McCain campaign wise shot himself in the foot.

I recall 2008-2009. People were truly afraid that Obama would enact gun control. And their fears were based on fact.

Only because they were short a vote or so, it can and will happen if we keep voting for anti gun politicians and holding our nose hoping.

Wed March 12th, I went to the LGS to buy a rifle case....it was about 1PM on a weekday and the 4 or 5 salesmen were all with customers who were inspecting and buying handguns and rifles. That did not include the two employees behind the cash register processing the paperwork and $$$.
I had a bit of a wait until the owner came over to help me.

This.
When you campaign on "guns bad", expect gun panics when you get elected.

Pretty much, Obama tried with all his might to get Congress to push gun control. It was the effort of gun owners in key swing districts putting pressure on lawmakers that turned the tide. Their pressure kept those lawmakers wondering "if I vote in favor of gun control, will I be out of office next election?"

I would guess that sales are down as there is likely less panic due to those that are in power

Considering all that went on in the last 5 years I would be very surprised if gun sales didn't plummet. Pretty much everyone who wanted a gun has a gun. Plus a lot who really didn't . Plus if you consider the rise in cost to a young couple just to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. It's pretty easy to understand how a gun in the closet is now far less important than a tank of gas.

A lot of people who were teenagers in the last five years are buying guns.

I've read a couple of articles this week that sales are dropping towards pre-pandimic levels. The thought is that with the current political climate buyers have relaxed and that sales will slide to new lows.

That bodes ill for the firearms industry that has gone from low to high and looks to be on the path to low demand. It can lead to big retail price drops that we can take advantage of, but in reality it will also lead to a narrowing of options as the industry looses businesses.
I don't feel bad for my mechanic, when my truck doesn't break down. Or when price of oil drops, ya some guys get screwed, but it is better for the country.

But I am not sure I believe are gun have less options. Its always been cyclical business. Myself I have been hoping for sales.

But I don't really feel sorry for dealers right now They made lots of money, now it slows down, until the next Democrat gets elected.

Don't even have to wait for Democrats do to something.

Trump has caved on guns already once and has publicly stated multiple times that he wanted to do more gun control.

Hell, on the state level, Republicans in a number of states have pushed gun control.

There are no politicians out there For The People. All politicians out there are For getting Elected and Reaping the Riches it brings. Parties are a suckers game. No more. No less.

We are comfortable. House, farm, three vehicles all paid for. Nice house. Moderate , older vehicles(‘O6, 13, 15.)
I’ve got more than a few guns. Some collectible, almost all worth more than i paid.
If the industry depended on me now they’re in trouble. I’m about to buy my first new gun in five years.
Used stuff sells quick at swap meets.
We have a critical shortage of good shops in central IL. The Gov. has killed off four locally.

The anti gun agenda is permanent line in the Politian rhetoric. As soon the gun owners lower the guard (spending money in gun stuff market) the whole avalanche will be over the right of the people and will be just a saying ala "Remember when CMP they send you the Garand by mail".
The enemies of the people's right are: comfort, lack challenges, ignorance on history events / education all of them are the rhetoric tools promised by mostly all parties around the world today.

The common consensus on our statewide classified site/gun forum, is that it's much harder to get money outa folks these days. Seems that trading is often easier.

Trump really worries me on guns. He is a Ney Yorker. I was worried last time if elected he would make deals with dems, because he makes deals, and would not have to worry about re-election. Hopefully now they won't get along enough to deal.

After parkland shooting he wanted to change law to 21 to buy a long gun. A long gun for gosh sake. Besides all the other stuff that makes this stupid, this could stop people from hunting 18-20.

Well, if sales Are "going down", isn't this beneficial from the perspective of many buyers?

Or are you a seller who isn't having any luck with today's market prices?

:scrutiny:Trading: lately I've seen a series of WTT ads on the Marketplace at FALfiles.
This could indicate that many prospective sellers sense a widespread shortage of "gun cash" among prospective buyers.

Every California gun store I have been in this year to look at guns, buy guns or do transfers, (five different gun stores so far) I have had to wait in line. Gun sales in California are through the roof. I'm picking up a LNIB CZ75B this Saturday and I have to be first through the door when the store opens or I'll be stuck there for hours waiting to be helped. And this is even with Gavin Newsom's evil, Unconstitutional 11% excise tax. I have bought two new guns this year and had to pay it and two used ones that I didn't have to pay it.

This thread topic is pretty much relevant only depending on what state in which one resides.

Here in Washington, we have multiple bills pending in our state legislature. One will require training (including live fire) and a permit to purchase any firearm. It's gonna pass. Another will tax firearms AND ammunition another 11%. It's somewhat likely to pass. Another bill foists even more onerous restrictions and fees on FFLs. Then there are a couple more bills that could be fast-tracked at the end of the legislative session.

Up here, we're pretty much doomed. We were already at the California/Illinois/Oregon/Colorado/Maryland/Massachusetts level...

So firearms sales up here are gonna be fairly brisk for a while longer.
