Brethren and Sisteren,

I am intending to pick up a few "High Cap" mags for my SIG P226 .40 S&W in the very near future (while they are still legal).;) If I am not mistaken, SIG Sauer does not sell a magazine that exceeds 12rds. Mec-Gar makes both 13 and 15 round magazines. I have been burned by bad magazines before so I am reluctant to purchase magazines that do not come from the gun manufacturer. This leads to two questions.

1) Are Mec-Gar magazines any good?

2) I have been told that Mec-Gar makes the SIG mags. Is that true? If the answer to question #2 is yes, then question #1 is moot.

I have a few for my Para Ordnance P13-45 and they worked fine after I replaced the springs with ones from Wolff. Before replacing the springs, I'd get occasional jams.

Yes. Mec-Gar makes CZ mags. I use 5 of them, and mine work as advertised. They have a good reputation.
NO (?) My Sig 239 mags aren't Mec-Gar. If I could find Mec-Gar for my Sig, I wouldn't hesitate to buy them.

I could be wrong but I beleive someone on the Sig Forum Board was talking about Mec-Gar mags. and another longtime sigger responded to him that Mec-Gar makes the mags. for Sig.

Got 3 for my Walther PP

Great mags - feed great - no problems

I don't know about their customer services. I've used their magazines for Hi-Powers, Beretta Bobcats, and CZs. Absolutely no issues so far.

Additional Question:

I will have a conversion barrel (.357 sig) and I want to be sure that the Mec-Gar Mags takes both .40 S&W and .357 Sig. Any potential problems?

MecGar mags are excellent.. In fact MecGar IS the manufacturer of "factory" magazines for several manufacturers, and I know my KelTec P11 came with MecGars as did my Walther P99's...

Never had a seconds problem with MecGars.:D:D

Now..

Wanna ask the same question about ProMags? :barf:

Didn't think so..

Best Wishes,

Jesse

Mec-Gar, when available for your application, should be on your "to-buy" list.

I use nothing but Mec-Gar in competition. Mec-Gar are also the OE suppliers for CZ and many other manufacturers.

MecGar started off as an aftermarket Italian magazine manufacturer. As firearms manufacturers started looking for cheaper options instead of making their magazines in-house, they came across MecGar. It turned out, that MecGar seemed to make better magazines most of the time and for cheaper prices. So, companies like Sig Sauer, Walther, Smith & Wesson, and CZ started having MecGar make all their magazines for them. A lot of gun enthusiasts were upset because this transition to a cheaper priced magazine surely meant that it was cheaper quality too. Nope, it was better quality and cheaper because of reduced union labor costs and imbedded taxation.

This happens with a lot of part outsourcing in which people seem to automatically bash at first glance. H&K and Sig have been outsourcing some of their parts manufacturing to Asia and the Middle East. So far, those plants seem to be making very good quality parts.

I and a shooting buddy have had problems with MecGars in several different 1911s. MecGars are for range use only now. They make excellent mags for other pistols but I've had bad luck with them on 1911s.

I believe that in the case of the 1911 there are over a dozen TDPs(technical data packages) for various stages of 1911 military development. Some countries have access to some of them and I think the MecGar only has access to a few variants. So, with so many variations it would be hard to predict how an aftermarket 1911 MecGar magazine would behave in a particular brand of 1911.

In the case of firearms manufacturers like CZ, Sig, S&W, and Walther...MecGar does have the updated TDPs and those magazines are just about as good as it gets.

The Mec-Gar's I have for my CZ's and Kel-Tec's have functioned perfectly. I don't even consider buying "factory" mags anymore. **This applies to pistols only**.

yes they are good.

mec-gar does make facotry mags for various companies. Cz is on that I'm sure of.

I;'d by factory mags and mec-gars, but nothing else.
