Are Walmarts selling more guns?

Urban?

We have four Walmarts within 25 miles of where I'm sitting.

One is up around the corner in Hayden, maybe 1.5 to 2 miles away. The next one, in Post Falls, is just over 10 miles from here. Then I cruise over almost to Cabela's at State Line to the next one at just about 16 miles, and finally I cross the state line into Washington and pick up another one at just about 24.5 miles in Spokane Valley.

This doesn't include any other Wally stores in the rest of Greater Spokane.

All four of those stores sell firearms and ammo. It's the usual selection of rifles and shotguns, with the same special-order items available through their Sporting Goods department catalogue (e.g. they don't keep the Marliin 1894C on the rack, but they'll sell you one if you order it).

There's been no sign of any reduction in stock or selection.

(Keep in mind, though, that this is North Idaho, and Wally World has to compete with more than a dozen well-stocked sporting goods stores, all of whom handle sidearms in addition to long guns.)

I don't know if any of these stores qualifies as "urban," but they're all within city limits, all fairly close to high-density housing, and all frequented by the usual Wal-Folk.

Cultural thing, I guess.

When the lady working the gun counter shoots black powder and teaches hunter safety, and the girl working the knife counter down the street complains that she had to dress her first doe of the season with a 2.5-inch Buck Rush because she forgot her big knife back at the truck, you're probably not gonna have a clash with the local culture, unless its a failure to provide a broad enough selection.

Wally Gunz. We haz dem.

Out here in the Soviet Socialist Republic aka California, Walmart stopped selling firearms some time ago, at least in So-Cal. Ammunition has been available in most areas, but if you must venture down to the colonoscopy that is Los Angeles, you will find none. I have purchased guns from them in the past, and would do so again if they sold them here.

The 4 WallyWorlds in Lexington sell ammo but don't sell guns anymore. If your WallyWorld sells guns and they don't have what you want, ask to see their gun order catalog. They can order just about any rifle, shotgun, or scope you want. I try to support my local shops, but I always check prices, too. The WallyWorld on Richmond Rd used to have killer deals on clearance ammo. I bought a brick (500 rnds) of Win 9mm 147 gr JHPs for $50.00. Got a brick of Win .40S&W (500 rnds) SilverTips 155gr for $95.00. Got a brick (200 rnds) of Win 180gr .30-06 SilverTips for$65.00. Don't think I'll see those prices again.:(

wont find any urban walmarts selling guns anymore
I'm not sure what Walmart's definition of urban is, but in the two urban areas (as defined by the US Census Bureau) I frequent, I know of at least 4 Walmarts with guns.

Davenpoer has a west store that sells long guns and ammo. The east side Walmart only carries ammo. Lately in the last 2 month their ammo supply has been almost nothing. A rural stoe 40 miles north in Maquoketa, IA has no guns and a short ammo supply.

I am a California native, only leaving in 2003, and this has also been my experience. This is a perfect example of overly burdensome regulations. What with the ID, utility bill, proof of gun lock or safe, safety certificate, demonstration of handling and whatever other garbage they've added since, they probably couldn't be bothered any more. At least in the Wal-Marts nearest to me (two in JC, one each in Elizabethton and Unicoi) there are plenty of rifles, shotguns and (to a lesser extent) ammo. Now if you can find someone manning the counter ... :D

The wal-marts in Maine seem to be hit or miss on Firearms my local one in Farmingtons has always carried them but if I drive to Skowhegan they do not carry them

The local Walmart doesn't sell guns. A week ago I stopped in the next town over to get a 20 guage. The Walmart refused to call in my paperwork since my drivers license has a po box address. The DMV insisted I list my po box since they need it for my registration renewals. The gunshops, gunsmiths, and other dealers have no issue with my drivers license.

Clarksville, IN Wal-Mart had plenty of rifles & shotguns in stock when I was last there about 3 weeks ago. They also seemed to have a fair amount of ammo, though pistol selections were thin.

Wal-Mart in Minot, ND even sells reloading supplies - they had pretty good prices on their limited selection of powder, too.

My Walmart has started selling shotguns and rifles again Took them out around 2 years ago. . Guess they saw they were loosing money. And we all know Wal Mart can't stand to loose a buck.

I've noticed here in central Ohio that the Wal-marts are beginning to have a little better selection of ammunition than in the years past. 44mag, 357, 38spl, 9mm, 40, 45, 30-06, 223, 22-250, 308, 30-30 and of course, bricks of .22LR and 17 HMR. For the most part, they have a decent selection, but if they get a run on them, they might have empty shelves for a day or two.

I spoke to the local manager, and when they remodel the local Walmart this spring, they're going to start carrying guns again. I'm glad to see they're having a better selection since the local gun shops have had empty shelves from time to time as well.

Walmart in West palm beach, Florida used to sell them, not so sure if they do anymore, Dicks sporting goods a block away usually has better prices on calibers I own, and costco usually has better food deals so I have no need to go into walmart.

What exactly is an "urban Wal Mart"? Most of the ones in Dallas and Ft Worth sell guns.

That's not urban?

Wal Mar is in the business of selling what sells. If a store doesn't sell guns it's not likely a political statement, more likely it's simply that the floor space is selling something more profitable.
