I'm in process of finding a late Father's Day gift for my father-in-law in the form of an Arisaka with an intact mum. Found one and the seller says the mum is "partially filled." Any idea on how hard it would be to remove said filling?

Maybe partially ground off. I'd hold the sellers feet to the fire and let him restore it if it is still there and truly filled.

Partially "filled" ? I would think that partially "filed", meaning ground off would be a better guess. All Arisakas surrendered at the end of the war were supposed to have had their " Mums " ground off as a sign of respect to the Emperor.
