This is an email from the AZCDL (Arizona Citizens Defense League), enumerating the anti-gun bills introduced in the new legislative session, reminding us that we no longer have a gun-friendly governor in office, and reminding us about the RTS system we have so successfully used in the past, including all the necessary links.

The Anti-Rights Bills Are Pouring In!
Members of the legislature that want to infringe your right to keep and bear arms have already introduced a pile of bills to do just that. Led by Representative Jennifer Longdon (LD 5), some of the bills introduced so far would:

  • Violate your right to due process of law by instituting STOP orders HB 2184
  • Mandate all transfers (not just sales!) of a firearm be conducted through a licensed FFL holder HB 2182 HB 2181
  • Require pediatric doctors to lecture parents on gun safety HB 2178
  • Weaken state preemption of local anti-rights ordinances HB 2191
  • Create a public database of CCW permit holders HB 2183
  • Require adults under the age of 21 to be supervised while carrying a firearm even on private property! HB 2193
Other legislators that have co-sponsored various Longdon bills include Senator Lela Alston (LD 5) and Representatives Nancy Gutierrez (LD 18), Judy Schwiebert (LD 2), Alma Hernandez (LD 20), Keith Seaman (LD 16), Stephanie Stahl Hamilton (LD 21), Laura Terech (LD 4), Jennifer Pawlik (LD 13), and Stacey Travers (LD 12).

If you weren't sure where our new governor stands on all of this, look no further than Wednesday's FaceBook posting of her bragging about meeting with representatives of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Meanwhile, the governor has rejected requests from AzCDL to meet and discuss these issues.

As these bills are heard in committees in the coming weeks, your Senator and Representatives will need to hear from you. The Request to Speak (RTS) system is one of the most effective ways to let your voice be heard in the legislature!

Request to Speak

An important part of getting a bill through the state legislature is hearing it in various committees. Bills are often assigned to one or more committees where they will be heard by the committee members and the public will have an opportunity to comment in support or opposition of the bill. Bills that are approved by the committees to which they are assigned will move forward while those that fail are said to have, "died in committee," and will receive no further consideration.

There are two ways to comment on a bill, either in-person or by sending a message to the committee electronically. Both methods are accomplished using the Request to Speak system. RTS is a system set up by the state legislature to allow constituents to communicate with their legislators and to request the opportunity to address committee members directly.

You do NOT have to speak before a committee in-person in order to use RTS.

RTS is not run by AzCDL, but it is a valuable tool in our arsenal, so it's critically important that as many AzCDL members as possible have an RTS account and use it to provide feedback to our senators and representatives.

If you DO have an RTS account, please log into it and make sure that you are able to access the system. If you cannot access your existing account, first try to reset your password using the tools provided on the RTS login page. If your email address has changed since last session, you will need a new account (please follow the instructions below to have a new account created).

If you are still unable to log in and navigate within the RTS application, your account may have gone inactive and must be reactivated at an RTS terminal. Reply to this e-mail or contact Tom Woodrow for assistance. We will need your account e-mail address and password in order to reactivate your account. Once active, you can change your account password as desired.

---

If you DO NOT have an RTS account, AzCDL can help you set one up. Although you can use RTS from any Internet-capable computer, tablet or smartphone, new accounts must be created on the RTS terminals located in Phoenix at the state Capitol or in Tucson at the satellite office.

In order to help set up your account, we will need to know the e-mail address you would like associated with the account.

Please do not attempt to create an account on your own computer or device as the account will not be active. If you have already done so, we can activate the account for you but we will need to know the e-mail address and RTS account password you used to create it. Once the account is activated, you can then change your password to another one of your choosing.

If you need to set up an RTS account or if your account needs to be reactivated, reply to this e-mail or contact Tom Woodrow.

Our new governor is NOT a supporter of your right to keep and bear arms, so we need all hands on deck in order to advance the cause of liberty!

The site is azcdl.org and appears to be down right now according to two sites that check such things.

On February 7 at 3:00 pm, our provider informed us that AzCDL.org was back online! We were told it might be temporarily delayed from viewing in certain localities but should be visible within a short time to everyone. This outage also interfered with our email, so if you emailed any @azcdl.org suffix account, and do not receive a reply within a few days from now, please resend your message! During the session things are hectic and we know that you have a need for information!

Thank you for your patience while we resolved the issue!

There is a slight majority of Republicans in both the state House and Senate, but that can mean very little. The RTS system is VERY easy to use once set up, but you have to move fast, because THEY are moving fast. Heck the budget bill is done and headed to the Governor in Thief right now.
