Awesome! If he hadn't been armed he could have been their 3rd homicide victim.

Hero homeowner holds escaped Georgia inmates at gunpoint until arrests

Published June 16, 2017 Fox News

A Tennessee homeowner held two escaped inmates wanted in the killing of two prison guards at gunpoint Thursday until authorities arrived and made the arrests. Rowe and Dubose are accused of killing two guards on a prison transfer bus early Tuesday. Authorities had offered a $130,000 reward for information leading to their arrests.

Good to hear. I'd expect more details later. The homeowner may not want to speak publically and might prefer not to be identified. I know I wouldn't.

Great news.... and as usual most of the media will downplay any solid actions by an armed citizen. That homeowner gets an attaboy from this corner (and I hope the reward as well...).

The state of Georgia will know exactly how to deal with these two murderers....

I don't know if it's true because it's from CNN, but they claim the homeowner called his neighbor and they both armed themselves and confronted the fugitives. So they claim it was two homeowners. But either way, good on him...or good on them.

Armed citizen(s) ending the escape of, and taking down, two cop killers.

From the article in he OP:
Gov. Nathan Deal released a statement, “Rest assured, justice will be served. My sincere thanks to our local, state and federal law enforcement officers who assisted in the manhunt. Because of their tireless efforts, the public is safe."

What the..?

Did the Governer just thank law enforcement and totally ignore the citizens who actually apprehended these killers?

There's not a lot to the story. After a police chase the perps crashed their car and ran into the woods. The citizen caught the perps attempting to steal his car.

"Rowe and Dubose crashed the car and bailed out, running into the woods, Miller said. They then came across a home set back on a long driveway.

The trooper said the homeowner looked outside and saw the two allegedly trying to steal his car. The man held the two at gunpoint with a neighbor he called for help until the sheriff's department could get there to arrest the fugitives."

Peter Martinez, "2 escaped Georgia inmates captured after massive manhunt, officials say", CBS News, 15 Jun 2017.

Quote: "It was believed that Dubose and Rowe tied up an elderly couple in Shelbyville and held them at gunpoint, according to CBS affiliate WGCL-TV. The suspects then stole their vehicle and drove on Interstate 24 where they shot at sheriff's deputies who chased them, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
"After crashing the car, the two men fled on foot and came upon a home after running through the woods. The suspects were held at gunpoint after a homeowner saw them trying to steal his car. A neighbor stepped in to help while authorities arrived on scene."

:Endquote

A lot of the coverage does not cover the fact that, when the two fugitives attempted to steal a car, the car owner and a neighbor detained the suspects at gun point for arrest by officers in pursuit.

I am as cynical as anyone else here about why some news ignore the role the detainers played. I'll be charitable and say, since there was a public alert to two dangerous desperados on the loose, informing the public the danger was over was the most important part of the story.

The first mention of an armed homeowner being involved that I read was on Fox. I immediately began to seek out more details by going to a few local outlets, as well as a couple of other national ones. By far, almost all of them left out any mention of anyone other than law enforcement being involved in the captures.

The reward money will be split among several, perhaps dozens, of people. Everyone who crossed paths with the suspects and gave information to law enforcement can be said to have provided information leading to the captures of these scumbags. This includes the first person carjacked, the owner of the truck they stole afterwards, the homeowners who were restrained in their home and had their Jeep stolen, and the two individuals who made the final apprehension. I'm certain there are others as well.

I suspect the two fugitives had no ammo or no access to the guns they had.

I love a happy ending..... And I'd bet you won't see much (if any) coverage of it on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc.. Fox might have something but that's only my best guess. Hope the reward money goes to all those who deserve it, which could be several, or even dozens, of people like MedWheeler mentioned. In any case; God bless 'em all.

And I'd bet you won't see much (if any) coverage of it on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc..

It's all over the news. Every network covered the incident. Look at the links at post #13. I checked over two dozen links to this incident this morning. Every one acknowledged that the perps were caught by a local resident.

^ Well that's a welcome change in coverage. First story I saw outside Fox News did not mention the role of armed citizens.

BBC was better and did include the armed citizens.

CNN

The bravery of a homeowner put an end to the three-day long manhunt, [Rutherford County Sheriff Mike] Fitzhugh said.
The inmates had run through the woods to a home on Pruitt Road, near the rural community of Christiana.
"The homeowner was alerted somehow, he looked outside and saw the suspects trying to steal his vehicle," Lt. Bill Miller from the Tennessee Highway Patrol said late Friday.
The homeowner called his neighbor and both men, each armed with a gun, confronted the fugitives.
Having lost their weapons in the crash, Dubose and Rowe surrendered, authorities said.
"I can't say enough about the bravery of the homeowner, and what they took on, the wherewithal to call us and give us the information so we could get over there and apprehend these two subjects," Fitzhugh said.

CNN covered that. I tell you, that is a sign of the End Times.

Even NBC News referred to the armed citizen as a "Good Samaritan". A good ending to a rotten nightmare---I'll be watching for the after action review of the events that led to the death of the two Correctional Sergeants. As Ambrose Bierce said, "The Devil is in the details".
"Good Samaritan".. as usual people who write scripts for reporters and newscasters need a dictionary, and to use the right terminology in context.

First story I saw outside Fox News did not mention the role of armed citizens.

Googled up a few dozen more links. The first UPI story came about when someone in GA said the perps were captured. There was no acknowledgement that a citizen had caught the perps; probably because the guy in GA did not know a citizen had captured the perps. This early Fox News story made no mention of the citizen capturing the perps:

"Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said Rowe and Dubose surrendered after fleeing into some woods. He said that shots were fired, but did not say by whom. The inmates were unharmed and there were no reports of injuries to law enforcement personnel."
