Cheapest made by dpms for around $500? I cant find them for less than $650! If i had the money I'd buy it now before they jack up the prices. I've been to a few walmarts in my day. and I've never seen them sell anything remotely "tacticool"! Sounds awesome!

No, they don't. There are pics all over of their piss-poor staking attempts

Perhaps that's in the past and they've updated now. I know in products of all kinds, adjutsments tend to be made as time goes on. Mine is properly staked.

I am tempted to try that $500 DPMS, I never owned an AR before, I used plenty when I when I worked for the state and plenty of M16s when I was in the Army, but never one I could tweek with.

Don't pee away $500. You can spend $600+ with a S&W Sport and have a decent AR. Then again, save, and get something built like it should be.

Google AR Mispec, TDP, properly staked bolt carrier, shot peened and words like that.

Really? They are that bad? I thought DPMS built pretty good stuff. I would not want to tie up a ton of money in an AR, since I don't usualy varmint hunt, I have a nice XDm for home defence, and I have several MUCH better calibers for big game hunting then the 223.

I have a couple of DPMS rifles and there isn't anything wrong with them. They may not be 100% mil spec but I still haven't had any issues related to build fit finish or quality.

That DPMS will be fine. No doubt it will be the sportical (for that price) with no case deflector, dust cover or forward assist. But it will shoot when you pull the trigger and hit what you aim at.

True, I think the M&P sport would be better, but I don't think you will ever find one for 600 bucks again. Cabelas had them on sale for that price before last Christmas, but you can't find them in stock anywhere now. At the last gun show I saw two, one for 750 the other for 899 (mark down from 999, of all things...).

You want to check out the Sportical, get on DPMS website and view it. Need more info, go to the ar15 forum, click on industry, scroll down to DPMS and read away. The company posts a lot of info there.

I would not want to be on the business end of any of them, be it DPMS, Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite . I do not have a DPMS. Do have the other three name brands. My next is going to be DPMS. I have shot a few of them and DO LIKE them.

I really appreciate all of the info regarding these rifles (this is a great forum!) Coming from someone who does not know much regarding these types of weapons it was a big help.

They are addicting, mostly because the do dads are practically endless and all interchangable no matter what brand you have. Wanna change calibers, just put a complete upper on your existing lower, can be ordered online, no FFL required. The lower, it's the piece that houses the trigger assembly, is what is considered the making of the gun and required to transfer through a FFL.

AK Maine, don't forget WalMart is heavily into predatory pricing based on the local market of your particular store. Their marketing people might have found a weak gun retailer (hardware store, whatever) in the neighborhood they can take out by undercutting him, even if it means taking a loss on the ARs they're offering for sale. Once the local gun dealer is out of business, up will go WalMart's prices. At least with an AR you're not buying Chicom stuff. Just don't expect any knowledge or after-sale service behind the counter, although a fair number of WalMart employees are shooters. And by all means, hold out for a S&W. Better rifle, better re-sale should you get hooked.
