Surprising these are now available at Aims. Many who are looking for an AR might go for these as they are in 5.56. They aint cheap though and mags can be trick to find. I wonder what the the barrel twist rates on them ? If they are 1 : 7 that be pretty good.

Aim's website claims they are 1:178mm (7"). At any rate that is not the particular model I would want unless I was planning to SBR it. If I wanted an SBR I'd rather have a 7.62x39 which doesn't suffer as much performance loss with the shorter barrel. I do like the poly side folder on it though.

My SLR-106FR has been great. I prefer the 545 and 556 rounds in kalashnikov variants to 762x39 due to the flatter trajectories.

Not to mention that the bulgy waffle mags aren't cheap either.

I think they're great aside from magazine cost and availability. I love my 5.45 and luckily stocked up on mags when they were reasonably priced. They went way up for some reason even before the panic started. However, there are magazine adapters to make the 5.56 AK's accept AR mags but i can't attest to their quality or reliability. I did read once that the AK bolts tend to tear up the AR magazine followers after the last round is fired.

I can attest to the quality of service from Texas AK designs (formerly known as Magnolia State Armory). To make a long story short I had to file a fraud action against the owner to get a refund after my card was charged and the owner informed me he had no intention of shipping me an adapter. He then communicated a bunch of stuff to me via email that was in direct contradiction to what he was posting on internet forums about his problems and how he was handling them. The owner Nathan has gone through multiple episodes of where he is taking peoples money, accepting new orders and then offering every excuse in the book, or even simply going silent, about why he isn't shipping. I've seen him call customers that asked questions or objected to this "pricks" and other names that THR mods would surely delete, for. The guy is a piece of work.

In the end I felt like I dodged a bullet anyways. Installation requires A LOT of the front trunion to be milled away. More of an issue than that, however, is that the manufacture told me that Pmags may or may not work well with his adapter and even if they do he has admitted that reports of the AK bolt eating up the followers are true and a known problem. It was one of those things that looks good on paper but I'm not convinced is that great in practice. Even if it is I would never risk doing business with that company again. If you want to run AR mags get an AR, if you want something more AK-esque I'd favor a Sig 556 (and I'm not super enamored with them).

I'd much rather buy some 5.56 AK mags than deal with MSA aka Texas AK designs or whatever they are going by these days.

Wasn't there another manufacturer of an adapter? I've also read that there was an Israeli adapter for the Galil but they are super rare.

To the best of my knowledge there have been two others made before. One was an Ohio something or other and have long been out of production the others are the renegade buck adapters. If I were to get an AR adapter today, this is without a doubt or hesitation the direction I would go. However, I'm not sure if he is still producing adapters or not.

Look into the definitive arms mag addapter.

I'd never seen this before but its hard to imagine that this wouldn't be a better option, at least in terms of the company and service behind it. The last round bolt hold open feature looks interesting and makes the manual or arms much more AR like, which is what many people wanting an adapter are after.

Had I known in advance how much material needed to be milled away form the barrel trunnion to make the MSA AR mag adapter fit I'd never have considered it. Having done it, it does work very well and no problems so far, but I sure wouldn't consider it for any dreams of a 6.8SPC or 6.5 Grendel AK :)

The only AK-type rifle that I know of that has a working AR mag adapter is the Galil. IMI made drop-in adapters that fit milspec magazines, and there's at least one other company that makes them as well. They're a drop-in installation on the Galil and Golani.

My apologies for it being my first post. Normally I don't go looking onto other forums but this time I'm making an exception since I have some time to kill.

I am calling Bull to your entire post.

If this is about the GunPal fiasco.... yes I told everyone to seek a fraud charge as I was not going to be able to ship product for free. Why don't you also tell everyone about the mass email where I told everyone to do this, and went as far as saying I would help talk to everyones card company to explain the situation. Which you got all upset over.... and yes I do remember you from the Saiga12 forum. GunPal was not giving us vendors funds or access to for purchases made and we were all in the dark. We didn't even have the ability withdraw funds let alone to provide refunds. A lot of misinformation went out as GunPal was feeding us false promises. Which also was a reason for delayed and sometime no responses as we vendors were waiting on GunPal to respond assuring us we would be funded. All of this is well documented and anyone can Google for accuracy. In the end GunPal went tits up and the decision I made mitigated the monetary damages at that time when I didn't have two nickels to rub together for rent and saved MSA. Every dime I had was in materials to rebuild a company. The orders that did ship at that time was for those who mailed in payments. So yes I was still taking orders.... just not through Paypal or GunPal. If memory serve didn't you threaten to expose me for taking all this GPAL money and had some type of evidence to prove it. Or was that one of the other trolls that is no longer around. Where is GunPal now I ask? As far as calling people pricks and more. Guilty as charged! I call it as I see it, most cases were on target. IF you're going to tell a story tell the whole story.

Furthermore....TAKD/MSA has always endorsed using PMags with our adapters. Magpul PMag is the only AR mag manufacturer we endorse as it's one of the most reliable on the market. We designed our adapter around the PMag..... not to mention it's printed right there in BLACK AND WHITE on the instructions that come with every one of our adapters.... all the way back to when I first launched MSA. Once again, you sir, are talking out of your ass.

Now about the chewed up follower. AR mags are not the only magazine that are subject to this. It also happens on AK mags too. Why do/did they add metal slugs to AK mags followers? Which is a reason why I designed a LRBHO to work with our BASTARD System back in 08 long before DA was around.

Plus if you how no experience with a product how can you make an opinion of it? Have you installed our adapter? How would you know how much material is removed? I've already deduced by your comments you hadn't seen an install manual.

Everyone here works diligently to keep up with demand and yes our back orders can vary from 1-2 days to 3-4 weeks depending on the current political gun ban/ Obama crisis. Any customer who places an order gets in line behind the person in front of them. We ship in order based on what they order. Bottom line is every order is fulfilled. PERIOD!

We are not a large corporation like Colt or Rock River Arms.... even they get bashed for their wait times. Sometime as much as 6-12 months. At one time it was just me rebuilding an entire company after my father passed away in 09'. Working 45 hours a week (full time job) and still another 40 hours on top of running a mill to build orders. We have since added two more people to staff. Josh and Will. Both of which keep up with correspondence as I am working full time in a shop running the mill.

I'd rather focus on the customers who understands everyone here works as hard and as fast as we can to get them their order, Rather than focus on the ones who would rather bitch and moan. So if I get an email about a "fraud complaint" or from a customer who thinks I'm going to jump them ahead of other customers in line waiting patiently just because they throw a tantrum because one of my vendors or suppliers set us behind.... I'm not. Nor am I gonna get off my mill making adapters to stoke egos by replying to people spitting poison to me in an email.

So when someone takes the time to act like a child and threaten someone in an email don't expect that I am going to bend over backwards for that person. Our current status quo response is that we cancel their order immediately and provide a refund. And I've done 4-5 since January. They are welcome to take their business elsewhere. Out of those 4-5, 3 reorder after they emailed us and we told them we don't tolerate people spitting poison. Regardless of what they've read on a forum. We will do everything we can to earn them as a customer. Once they cross that line, we will cut them loose.

Not everyone is one of our customers, and not all customers are right. And I sleep just fine with that. So if we/I didn't meet your expectations, I'm sorry. For every one of you I have hundreds upon hundreds of other happy customers with our product. All you have to do is visit our Facebook page to see. TAKD has grown larger every year since despite your experience. Post like yours are from a brief time in our history of rebuilding from ashes, nothing more. You're welcome to continue living the past. I will continue to focus on building the future.
