Sad news indeed! For the longest time I meant to correspond with Art because he was a resident of Terlingua, Texas. There was documentary about a murder in Terlingua several years back and after that I noticed that Art had Terlingua under his icon. Terlingua was barely an oil spot off the road and was virtually miles from nowhere but the documentary was spellbinding. I regret not discussing with him. Prayers for his family!

Jim Watson, thanks for posting this last night. That was supposed to be my job, but the screen was so blurry all night that I couldn't do it.

I've spent many hours sittin', spittin', and whittlin' (Art's words) on my porch with Art. Hearing this yesterday in Staff was like getting kicked in the chest. We likely will never meet anyone remotely close to Art's wisdom, knowledge, and down-home humor. My wife and I will miss him deeply. :(

Art and I sitting on his tailgate at the Whittington Center in 2007, "Jes jawin'".

Art was one of the originators of THR and an inspiration to many of us.

He embodied THR and the philosophy behind it.

He was the best of us and the world is diminished by his passing.

    That's tough.

He follows others who have surprised me for their creeping importance in my life solely through inter-media.

One of those individuals where as you scan return-posts that you stop at seeing his name and say to yourself: "Better read this one."

As with RC's passing, there will be a clear gap in the content and returns.

Some peoples' passings go unnoticed - others are tough.

    Todd.

Damnit. Art will be missed. As a fixture, it never even really occurred to me that he was as mortal as the next man.

    Rest in Peace.

Terrible news. I didn't know Art, but loved reading his posts.
I use a line all the time that I got from him. Every time someone at our deer camp talks about meat damage, I pull out the famous Art line, "Then don't shoot em in the eatin parts."

I learned a lot from Art over the years. As a young whipper snapper on TFL, I followed his posts closely. He’ll be missed for sure. Prayers to his family and those close to him.

I grew up participating in competitive shooting with my fathers generation. I learned that their generation was very generous with their time, information, and experience. Much more so the my 'so called ' generation x.
The fact that I made so many friends, and had such great times with those older gents is beginning to weigh pretty heavy on me.
So many of the older generation are leaving us. They are taking with them their generosity and knowledge that we have taken for granted.

Twice in one week, I have tipped a drink in honor, posted a few words, and said a prayer in memory of a fellow shooting enthusiast.
    RIP Mr Eatman.

Gut-punched, but I'll simply celebrate a life well lived. RIP Art. I hope to walk with you in fields, with your stride full and strong once again.

Art is one of those whose posts I just had to read. I came to think of him as a close friend though I never had the opportunity to meet the man. I'll miss his posts and his down home wisdom. As another member here has already noted, I too, remind the guys in hunting camp to "Don't shoot 'em in the eatin' parts."

Early on in my membership here on THR I learned the wisdom of Art's Grammaw. It's something I have carried on to my kids: "Don't say it if your Grammaw would not approve."
I am gonna miss him in the worst way.

Rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord, Art, for he is a loving God...
