From the article:

"If history was any indication, observers predicted that laws introduced in the wake of the Parkland shooting were going to loosen, not strengthen, gun safety laws. Instead, politicians have embraced gun safety cause like never before. What changed in the aftermath of the Parkland shooting to explain this progress?"

Not sure I agree with this article.

If you do a google search, you will find out Sophia is part of the Brady Bunch aka Everytown, or whatever they are calling Bloomberg's vanity project this year.

Actually, Bloomberg shelling out a lot of money and changing the composition of the legislatures in places like VA has affected things. Candidates wanting money are more than willing to shill anti-gun talk in blue areas. Rural ones are much more reticent about it.
What has happened since 2018, blue states got even more anti gun and were never realistically going to loosen firearms laws in the first place. It has been no problem for them to put more onerous conditions on it.

The national Democratic party has become anti-gun and no longer tries to hide its sentiments as well due to donor and to be fair grass roots sentiments. Parts of the Democratic coalition support gun control because a) it is the norm where they came from and b) experiences with street crimes and gangs in their local neighborhood. They would rather blame the availability of guns instead of broken families, substance abuse, glamorization of the thug lifestyle by popular culture, lack of education and jobs, etc.

Sophia Young is a fellow at the Brady Center for Gun Violence Protection. Her research on recent developments in the gun violence prevention movement is published as a chapter in the book, “Upending American Politics” (2020, Oxford University Press).

It says what she is at the end of the article. 'Nuf said?

The NRA is in trouble.
The president and VP hated each others guts. The VP retires and the president resigned. The antis have been allowed to run almost unchecked from when ever all that drama happened.

It didn’t take long for this to turn into hate-the-NRA discussion.

The Bipartisan Background Check Act did not pass on the Federal level. It is obvious that the author is a product of public education as she doesn’t know that a bill has to also pass the Senate and get past the President.

It is also sad that some THR members are blaming the NRA for gun laws being passed in States instead of placing the blame squarely on the shoulders of gun owners who were to lazy or apathetic to go vote.

Nothing here to see and we don’t need another NRA thread that is just pro or con. We discussed this before.
