I'm just curious being that I really paid no attention to or had any intentions in owning an "assault rifle" or the like before the most recent attempted ban, did the Clinton and proposed Obama assault weapons apply to AK47 and AR15 pistols? I that the manufacturing of their standard capacity magizine would have been banned, but what about the pistol versions of those rifles?

Yes.

Aside from the standard evil features (flash hiders, bayonet lugs) assault pistols were subject to unloaded weight requirements and magazine location requirements.

A simple google reveals:

Semi-automatic pistols with detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

Magazine that attaches outside the pistol grip
Threaded barrel to attach barrel extender, flash suppressor, handgrip, or suppressor
Barrel shroud safety feature that prevents burns to the operator
Unloaded weight of 50 oz (1.4 kg) or more
A semi-automatic version of a fully automatic firearm.

Thanks... Heard a lot a talk and complaints about rifles, but almost no mention of pistols. Figured they attempted to ban those too.

The thing is that they weren't really banned. You could buy a newly manufactured AR-15 or AK during the 1994 to 2004 period. They were just changed to meet the requirements of the law. The bayonet lugs and flash hiders were removed. AKs had thumbhole stocks instead of pistol grips. The magazines went down to 10 rounds. There was no law that said you could not return them to original configuration after you bought them. So you could buy a new stock and a grandfathered high capacity magazine and put them on the rifle without breaking the law.

The latest assault weapons ban attempt went nowhere really fast. It didn't have a prayer.
