RBid, I am like you. My Sig sits on the sink while I shower. There are too many home invasions(drug related) in my area now. It is sad, but a fact of life. Moving is not an option, atleast for another year or two. So until my family and I can leave the area, I try to be prepared.

I carry everywhere but the gym. Occasionally ill leave it locked in my jeep during work if its warm enough to wear only a tshirt IF im at a residential household in a good neighborhood. Otherwise its on me 100% of the time.

I need to get some actual real life training from a real instructor asap. So far ive only been able to watch youtube videos and practice what they do at my local gravel pit shooting range.

Shoot. I voted incorrectly.

I carry 100% when I can. It just so happens that I do a lot of work in courthouses, and out of state, so I only end up carrying about 50% of the time.

I made the decision to get a CCW because at the time I figured if I ever needed to have a CCW right now because I felt I needed it right now waiting a few weeks to get it would be a bad idea. So I got it to have the tool in my tool box figuring I would never need it or use it. Then I had a hard core violent felon move in with his mother after getting out of a long stay in prison and suddenly I was living next to an ongoing criminal enterprise and I started carrying.

An old cop once told me: "If it's legal for you to carry and you step outside your door unarmed, always 'Baa' like a sheep to remind yourself that that is exactly what you've chosen to be if the wolves show up."
I carry 100%.

I carry every day, but when I drive to work at 4:30 in the morning I usually don't take it with me. Why, generally I'm still half asleep. I actually have written permission from the administrator at my facility to have it there too.

Other than when driving to work, I carry every day, every where.
Shopping, walking the neighborhood, sitting around the house (most of the time), church, etc.

Swampman, I had a very wise gentleman yell some of the best advice I have ever received. One of which was " there are three types of people in this world, sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs.. " he always said that we were sheepdogs. It is a naive person that thinks bad things can't or won't happen to them.

Another aspect is the legal one.

If a judge asks why I was carrying a gun, "Because I always do" is a much better answer than "I thought I might need one in that neighborhood".

And I always do, regardless of surroundings. My shop, my mom's house (and she appreciates it), WalMart, lunch, home...

I put the 100%, excepting answer. But in reality it's probably about 99%. I truly do carry everywhere legal, always, with these exceptions: The Gym, swimming (pool or beach), and some medical appointments. Been that way since I started carrying in 2005.

My gun is like my underwear. The only time I notice it is when I don't have it on.

Much depends on if you work and where you work (can you carry or leave the gun in your car?), and how much you are outside your home.

Work = 40 hours/wk = 24%
Sleep = 56 hours/wk = 33%
Other = 72 hours/wk = 43%

So, it's really some percentage of the 43% "other" for most CPLs. And, part of that 43% is being at home but not asleep. Assuming 4 hours in the PM and 1 hour in the AM daily at home (but not asleep) is 35 hours/week. Now, we're down to 37 hours of "other" for CCW, not including commute time to/from work, and 100% of this time is 22%. So, yes, most CPLs do not CCW most of the time. I voted less than 25% and you can see why.

I voted 25 - 50% because I can't carry where I work. So that means I can only carry after work and on my days off. I also don't "carry" when I'm at home but guns are within easy reach.

Rarely. I live in a generally safe area. However, when I am making a road trip or going into a rough area of the town I will. Also, I carry every time I go to the ranch.

We live in the country on acreage. So far, no to low crime. I do not carry 100% when awake. Do not carry while in the house. Driveway is 350+ feet long with a 6% grade. Bell rings when you go through the front gate. The dog alerts whenever someone nears the top of the drive or comes up the neighbors drive. He is loud and constant until told that all is ok.

During the day firearms are within 20’, at night 2-6’ max. No children, just the wife. I don’t carry if I am going to the Post Office or Disney World. Anywhere else legal, off the property, I carry.

I like to try and balance “Quality of life” with risk factor (mine is low) and a dash of common sense. I am reminded of a black and white picture I saw in Life Magazine 50 + years ago.

Imagine a small kitchen, in an old and well worn cold water flat, on New York’s lower East side. A sink and sideboard can be seen to your left side and on the right is a stove and fridge. In the center of the room is a small, old and rickety table with two chairs. Over the table a single light bulb hangs from the ceiling. Behind the table is a wall with two dirty windows. One is open and beyond it a dirty black fire escape can be seen. Both windows are covered with heavy chicken wire nailed to their frames. Seated at the table with his back to the windows is an equally well worn middle aged man, staring sightlessly at the table. He is moderately over weight, has thinning hair and is wearing a “wife beater” undershirt. His forearms and hands rest on the table in front of him. About 10 inches in front of his hands rests a fully cocked 45 Auto.

I saw no “Quality of Life” in that picture and swore never to live that way.

I can't carry at work, so I don't. The only other time I don't carry is if I'm at a bar or other location that prohibits it. Otherwise, it's always on.

I would have voted 100%, except I spend a large chunk of my waking hours in areas where I can't legally carry. I can't even leave it in my car, so that eliminates while traveling to and from, also. :(

Can't go through life thinking some thug is right around the corner waiting to steal your wallet.

So are wallet thieves going around these days just demanding wallets without a knife or gun to coerce you into giving up the goods and just walking away when you refuse?
Now here I was under the impression most of us carry to protect our lives and others close to us when the truth of the matter is concealed carry is just to protect against unarmed wallet thieves.

If you really want to be that anal about it I think you should count the pistol in the nightstand 1 foot away from my bed and the revolver on the coffee table about 1.5 feet away from the laptop I am on. That would get me up to 76% (don't carry at work right now due to it being illegal)

I am sure most of the other "100%" voters can make similar claims.

Most of the time I am out of the house I'm either at school or at the gym...both places that prohibit firearms. I do not like leaving my gun locked in the car so I leave it at home in the safe. If, however I am going out with my wife and don't plan on having more than 1 drink, I am almost always armed.

...You are not willing to get a basic car safe to keep a pistol in your car when you go to the gym, but you will drink alcohol while carrying? Interesting.
