ATF paper work on SBR?

Quick question guys. I have suppressor paper work in route with the ATF right now. I have the "bug" now and I am really getting the itch to register one of my lowers for an SBR. Or maybe two Here is the question. Do I need to go through my class 3 dealer to do the paper work? He filled the paper work out for the suppressor last time, and I did the signing. I have a trust already, so not having to get LEO to sign. Thanks for the info.

no,you can do it yourself on a form 1.you would have to go to a trophy shop and engrave the trusts name on the lower receiver as the manufacturer.200 each for the tax stamp

If you're going to build a SBR on a Form 1, you need to have the receiver engraved. The requirements are in ATF 5320.8

Its safest to engrave before sending in the form in case the engraver messes up, then you are only out a lower, instead of a lower and a $200 tax stamp.

If you don't care about looks, you can meet the legal requirement with an "electic pencil" as Century often does on their guns.

I wish i was near Winchester, VA. Thanks for the heads up guys. So, this is what i'll need?

just need the trust name city/ state

First, engrave the lower with my Trust name-County and state? (dont live in a city) Is that okay?
Then two copies of my form 1
Two copies of my trust
Check for 200 to uncle Sam
Dont i need a certificate of compliance, or something like that?

Also, do you guys know anywhere a dummy can easily check to make sure his paperwork is filled out correctly?

Bubbles, I might be around there around the 1st of April. I have a form 1 I sent several weeks ago. I don't expect it back until July/August, but that's not a bad price for engraving.

I'd like to ad that if you own all the parts before you get the stamp you need to be very careful of constructive possession. If you're doing an AR-type you never ever want to be in possession of all the parts at the same time. Separate them and don't keep all the parts on your property. Do not ever, ever, ever be in possession of everything at the same time.

I talked to my attorney that wrote my trust and he said find someone to store the upper IF they do not have a rifle lower. Have them store the barrel for you (since that is the part that is regulated by NFA rules), but you should not have direct access to it like a key to their house or safe.


My attorney explained it like this. You have a car. It's in someone's garage. They have physical possession, but if you have a key to the car and a key to the garage you have constructive possession.

When you do the form make sure it is 2 sided!!!

When you sign your name, write trustee behind your signature.

You also do not need to send in two copies of your trust. One will suffice.
