I'm going to need the right hardware to attach these two. I know next to nothing about how you select rings and a base and would appreciate some help.

I'm running out of budget fast so would like to get something that will do the job, without getting into the luxury category. I think the XL7 and Buckmaster are both good examples of this. :)

Can you be more specific about which "Buckmaster" you're referring to?

I think the Marlin Model 7 uses the same mounts as the Winchester Model 70.

All I can tell is it has a good rating on the site. I don't know what makes a good base or a bad one. I imagine I'll need rings as well. would these be a good choice for that base?

I was told the weaver base that comes on the Marlin should be reasonable so will have to see when it arrives. That would just leave rings which he above of course wont fit.

Yes, I would use the medium height rings with the 40mm objective lens. This set up is all I use anymore. I have a Bushmaster and 3 Pro-staffs,all are mounted in the Leupold rings and bases.

OK thanks for the help. Anything in particular I need to know to install them and set them up? I'd imagine there is a guide somewhere on the net?

Do a search for installation procedures. There are plenty of sites offering such information. My only advice is to clean screws and screw holes well with alcohol and use blue Loktite on all threads.

A gunsmith can align the rings and lap them if needed. He can also level the crosshairs and bore sight it.

Will have a search around. If I can't get it right then I'll contact my local smith. Apparently he's on vacation right now. Lucky bugger.

    Thanks for the advice.
