Austin THR shoot -- Austin Rifle club 3/31 11AM

I understand it involves rowboats.

That would be freakin' awesome :D . There should be an event like that where you do an obstacle course with a rowboat and shoot targets. Kinda like the one in the olympics with the skis.

Hope weather conditions will allow us to meet at ARC as planned. If we have to change plans and go to HCRR, I will probably take a rain check. Adding the additional drive across Austin to HCRR makes the round trip in one day from Houston a little too much for these old bones. I have commitments here on Fri night and Sun morning.

Good shooting and be safe.

Well, I went to the ARC range today and checked out the condition. It has been raining the last few days except today, and the range condition is swampy but shootable. We've shot in conditions like today's many times during ARC's matches. The key is to bring a pair of those rubber rain boots.

I'll post an update on the condition on Friday. But today's condition is fine.

Today's weather is calling for severe thunderstorms, with more on Saturday.

There is an alternative, but it is handguns only at this time.

It is north of Lockhart, which is the Barbeque equivilent of the outlet malls in San Marcos.

Well, regardless, I am heading out in a few hours...got me truck loaded up with the implements of joy. :)

Rain or no, I WILL be there.

I will also have my laptop on for the ride up there so I will check on here from time to time while heading up.

I just hope Austin has 3G

Hi guys,

I drove by the ARC range this Morning and the conditions are still fine for shooting.

The BIG PROBLEM is this Saturday's weather forecast: thunderstorms. Although the firing positions are covered, I'm not sure if people like to shoot in the rain; definitely, paper targets aren't going to work and the ground will be too soft to use my spinners.

I'd like to suggest that we, instead of meeting at the range Satruday, meet at a restaurant for an 11 o-clock lunch. ARC folks have liked China Star and Texas Land and Cattle restaurants near the intersection of Hwy290 and I-35. Please post if you're interested in lunch and an optional shoot after. So far, I've not received any restaurant suggestions.

We'll get to know fellow shooters and bs about our shooting abilities... Don't bs too much or we'll head out to the range for a demo :)

My cell is area code four zero eight 772-6227, note the area code, in case you want to reach me via voice.

Well, there is still all the steel we're bringing. If my check comes in today, I'll also buy a whole mess of the splatter paper targets I normally use - they're waterproof.

As far as restaurants go, are you looking for only NE Austin? I know lots of good places, but most of them are central/downtown. How many people are we expecting?

I'm glad someone went to check it out . . . I fully intended to go shoot this morning but it has been pouring since I woke up.

I don't mind the mud, but if it is raining I'll probably be tiling the bathroom floor and saving the shooting for a prettier day. I'm just not hardcore enough to get wet unless there are birds to be shot. Hopefully the weather will hold and I'll see everyone tomorrow.

It's going to be a mess with paper, I can almost guarranty you. If I shoot in weather like this, I tend to head over to Red's indoor range.

I was just picking some restaurants close by ARC and Reds which is frequented by the ARC board, but I'm open to any.

I think there'll be _Zero_ turn out, but hey, you never know. Usually in these man vs nature situations, I find that nature wins much more often.

Have to admit that the weather forecast for severe thunderstorms and flooding are causing me to consider taking a rain check until a better day presents itself. Not looking forward to making a round trip from Houston under such weather conditions, especially since I have to be back Sat night. Any chance of rescheduling for April 14th at ARC?

Good shooting and be safe.

I'm still down to go, rain or shine. Have a few friends coming in from out of town (Houston) to join us as well.

Ill keep checking the forums as the hour draws nigh, or anyone in the area can feel free to give me a call (281 948 1552) for updates/to update me/restaurant suggestions/movie listings/place to sleep while in town/etc. :)

I'd say since you're the one herding these cats you should make the call. I'll be up for lunch and/or a shoot if it's not miserable.

Not so sure that I'm interested in shooting in the rain if I don't have to, but I wasn't really planning on doing much shooting anyway, I viewed it as more of a chance to meet and greet some of the people I know from THR.

Either way I suggest we get as much of a consensus as we can by this evening so people can check and know where we end up landing. Any changes after tonight will probably end up with someone not getting the message and missing connections.

I am here in Austin, in fact at the La Quinta on 35@183 so it won't hurt my feelings at ALL to meet up at the Texas Land & Cattle. :)

some good dead cow before any kind of shooting...hey...who can argue with that.

And regardless, I at least would like to put screen-names to faces. :scrutiny:

Well, I'd agree that we should meet for lunch and then figure it out from there. I'll go pretty much wherever you pick. I'm thinking Hut's or Katz's would be a good spot, and probably not very crowded if it's raining out.

From the way it's looking, my guess is that we may not get to shoot unless we do Red's. I have reservations about that, because on a Saturday, everyone else is going to be doing the same thing, and we may end up waiting there forever just to shoot.

MEETING LOCATION ---

ok,

Let's meet at Texas Land and Cattle at 11AM

6007 N I H 35, Austin, TX
512-451-6555

http://maps.yahoo.com/index.php#q1=6007+N+I+H+35,+Austin+TX&env=F

Easy to find, lots of parking, Academy near it.

This is near the intersection of I-35 and hwy290 (about .5 miles
south of I-35 and hwy183 intersection). Mention THR if showing
up late so we'll be seated together.

My cell is area code four zero eight 772-6227.

It looks like the chance of showers past 10am has gone down to 40%, so we may get to go shooting after all! If it's anything like today and starts to clear up early, it may be some decent, albeit muddy, shooting weather.

http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=78653&hourly=1&yday=89&weekday=Saturday

That's the forecast from the Weather Underground, which in my experience has been the most accurate of any of the weather services online. Here's to hoping for some shooting!

j1133s: are you going to check on the range before we meet up at TLC? It might be a good idea to make sure the overnight and morning rains haven't flooded out the range.
