Great -- so the government "targets" legitimate, licensed recreational gunowners and forcibly removes their handguns based on an arbitrary measure of barrel length, calibre and shot capacity.:banghead: However, they "allow" shooters to have .45s for "approved" matches -- which will probably only be Single Action (Western) and Handgun Metallic Silhouette.:fire: (bad luck for you blokes shooting IPSC or Service Match!)

Meanwhile, gangs of "ethnic kids" (trying to be PC) carry illegal handguns routinely, are caught on security video using them -- and get away with a "warning" from the magistrate! (True incident) And are these friearms stolen from licensed owners?? Sure they are -- NOT! Not too many people I know use .25 Jennings or similar for competitive target shooting!

And the twerp from Gun Control Australia says the problem could be solved overnight if the government simply had the guts to ban all semi-auto handguns!! :cuss:

    "every second day..."

No problemo. Just figure out the pattern, and stay indoors on the days the shootings are happening.

    ' especially in south-west Sydney '

I'm reminded of the 1984 Orwellian 'Proles' :-

Nature of Life for the Proles

    - “Nobody cares what the proles say†(p11).
    - Make up 85% of the population of Oceania (p72).
    - The Party does not see them as human beings but rather as animals (p56).
    - They lead a carefree life in which they are given the liberty to do what they wish and express what they feel.
    - Due to a shortage in necessities, Proles often caused riots among themselves in order to get these necessities.
    - The “Party taught that the proles were natural inferiors who must be kept in subjection, like animals, by the application of a few simple rules†(p74).
    - There is very little known about the Proles among Party members.
    - They are expected to work and breed because their other activities were of no importance. As such, they were left to themselves.
    - The life of the Proles was described as the following:
    - “They were born, they grew up in the gutters, they went to work at twelve, they passed through a brief blossoming period of beauty and sexual desire, they married at
twenty, they were middle-aged at thirty, they died, for the most part, at sixty†(p74).
    - They were only concerned with “heavy physical work, the care of home and children, petty quarrels with neighbours, films, football, beer and, above all, gambling†(p74).
    - They were not difficult to keep under control because the Thought Police would move among them spreading false rumors and marking down and eliminating people who
were possible threats of becoming dangerous.
    - The Proles were not supposed to have strong political feelings and there were no attempts to bring them into the ideology of the Party.
    - At mercy of the Party because they were forced to work longer hours or accept shorter rations and they accepted them due to a primitive patriotism (p75).
    - The majority had no telescreens and civil police interfered very little with them.
    - Lived with much crime and drugs.
    - They followed their own code of morals, not ones dictated by the Party.
    - Free to be promiscuous, to have a religion, to divorce, and none of these went with punishment.
    - “Proles and animals are free†(p75).
    - Only 40% of the Proles were literate.
    - They lived in slums, houses like “rat-holes†(p86), and broken windows.
    - They constantly lived in fear of deadly rocket bombs that destroyed them and their homes (p87-8).
    - Often went to the pubs or “drinking-shops†(p88).
    - “The Lottery, with its weekly pay-out of enormous prizes, was the one public event to which the Proles paid serious attention†(p89). This was the principal or only reason
that millions of Proles remain alive (p89).
    - The younger proles were fooled into buying things that they thought were pornographic and illegal, but which were not (p137).
    - Songs were published for the benefit of the Proles by a sub-section of the Music Department without any human intervention but instead by a versificator (p144). Music
was therefore made by a machine rather than by a human, illustrating the absence of care from the Party toward the Proles.
    - They were free to sing spontaneously and they were happy as they worked (p148).
    - They had no concerns regarding the war, as they did not care for it (156).
    - Julia believed that the rocket bombs came from the government of Oceania in order to keep the people frightened (p160). This would ensure that the Proles would not rebel
    against the Party.
    - They were loyal to one another (p172). Winston realizes that “the Proles are human beings†(p173).
    - The Party continually restrained the Proles by not allowing them to “graduate into the Party (p218).
    - They were, above all, expected to continue from generation to generation and from century to century, working, breeding and dying without any impulse to rebel.
    - Winston felt that the only hope of ever overcoming the Party would lie in the Proles.

kneecapping -- a delightful punishment consisting of a bullet fired at touching distance, from behind or in front of the knee joint, through the joint itself (and, hence, through the "kneecap").

Makes a hell of a mess, hugely painful, and the victim ain't never gonna win a prize in the marathon again ..... can also be done with a cordless power drill and a 1/2-inch drill bit.

When living in Brisbane, Aus. a few years ago I once heard that for the sum of $2000 you to can hire your own Hells Anglesque bikie to conduct a 'knee-capping' on your enemy of choice.

As for someone being shot every second day in Sydney?
I wonder what those distinct popping noises where late last night?
