Auto known to reliably feed all

If one wanted to buy a auto that is known to reliably feed most anything so you didnt have to go thru several rounds of various ammo, what gun manufacturers would you suggest?
 
You are going to get responses listing almost every current popular handgun manufacturer out there. But from my experience, when it comes to reliability of feeding many different types of ammo, you can't go wrong with a Beretta 92FS (9mm) or 96 (.40 S&W), a Springfield XD (any caliber), or Ruger P series. I hear great things about Sig Sauer, Glock and HK but have never owned any of these. Brands to stay away from in my opinion, based on personal experience, are Taurus and Kel-Tec.

You will get more opinions than you know what to do with. But most of the big name brands are turning out very reliable autos these days, so stick with them if budget isn't an issue and out-of-the-box reliability is. (Ruger, S&W, Colt, Springfield, Beretta, Sig, Glock, HK)
 
xd's, i have 2 and they have had every bullet type/weight/design from almost every maker, and some that some people have never heard of. they run and run, i have no complaints at all.
 
A Makarov. I've owned 3 and, after thousands of rounds, have had one jam. That one jam was after 450-500 rounds of Wolf without a cleaning. The gun was soot saturated. It was like the inside of a diesel tail pipe. After the one jam, it still shot about 250 more rounds without fail without having been cleaned.
 
I will add that my new Sigs are as reliable with a large variation in ammo as my W.German older sig. Never a single problem. My sisters's glock has some 5K plus rounds through it, not a problem with various ammos. I think many manufactures can tout this type of quality.
 
I love my XD 40 it feeds everything. I also love my XD 45 but it has trouble feeding lead bullets especially LSWC rounds. I fixed the LRN feeding problems but I still have problems with semi wadcuter rounds. My xd 40 has no problems with any of them.
 
My HS Produkt HS2000 is the same Croatian pistol (even made in the same factory) as the Springfield Armory XD9. It is very reliable, so I can give one more vote for the XD! It has eaten a wide variety of JHP and FMJ rounds with no complaints.

My Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact is also very reliable. Never a single failure to feed with a variety of cheap and "premium" JHP and FMJ ammo. The Bersa Thunder 380 has a similar reputation for reliability. I own two of them, and I can say that they can and will eat every kind of ammo with one minor exception. The only ammo that ever gave me trouble in my Bersa Thunder 380 was a box of Federal Hydrashok JHPs. The Federals have a very odd shape, though. Instead of being round-nosed like Remington Golden Saber JHPs, the Federal Hydrashoks that occasionally jammed my Bersa were very angular. They noses of the bullets were shaped like cones with the tops sliced off, not like the usual round nose you expect on a bullet.
 
THe CZ 75B I bought in May '08 ( left the factory Jan '08 ) has
had just over 1,050 rounds through it of every make and type of bullet
in 115 gr., 124 gr. & 147 gr. with no FTF/FTEs except one at the last
range session - I let a friend shoot some of his reloads through it. It
choked on a round that was overcrimped but I racked the slide and it
ejected the round. Funny, same day he had said he had returned his
GLock 19 back to the stock trigger - and it wouldn't stop locking the slide
after every shot. He also admitted to a couple of stovepipes a few
weeks ago. The only reason I let him use his ammo in my CZ was he
was stuck shooting his Ruger Mk III and I had my .45s 1911 & S&W 625
last saturday.

My 3rd gen S&W's have all been 100%, with the exception of my 1006 not liking hte old Norma ammo. My 4506 even happily digested a box of .45 GAP that was going to be discarded (buddy bought it, he didn't have a GAP gun or a 3rd gen S&W)
 
Yeah, the 3rd Gen S&Ws are incredibly reliable. At the moment my only example is a 4566TSW, but it, along with every other S&W 3rd gen I have owned or shot would feed anything, including empty brass.

For some reason a lot of people are down on them, but those people seem to be the ones with no actual experience with them.
 
Another vote for Third Generation Smith semi-autos. Some people don't like the ergos, some don't care for the looks but you will rarely hear from anybody who says they're unreliable.
 
Yet to see a .45 ACP round that a Ruger P90 or P345 would not feed. I think they would feed empty cases.
 
Give another vote to the Beretta 92...

from brown bear to Hornady and everything in between it has fed...mebbe not so accurate downrange especially with the brown bear. :) lol
 
Depends on your luck when buying a gun.

While most modern guns will reliably feed anything, it depends on how an individual gun is prepped & finished before shipping to the retailers. Sometimes, even the best reputation gun has some out-of-spec "slop" left in the gun.

In general, "reliability" depends on how well an individual takes care of it. For example, look at 10 houses on your street, they may have all been built at the same time, but some will be nicer due to regular maintenance while others will be more run-down if not totally trashed.

Personal responsibility is what is important.
