Hello,
What are the makes and models available for an auto loading deer rifle? Prefered caliber is .308. Rifle will be used only during deer season, mostly in open pasture scenarios at distances less than 200 yards, with most shots in the 100 yard range.

I am familiar with the Remington line of 7400, 742, 750, etc. but that is the only make I know of.

Used is perfectly fine, and standard sporty look is prefered (versus military style).

Thanks for any guidance.

If you don't like the military look in a .308 semi-auto, in addition to the Remington 740-750 family there is the Browning Automatic and the now discontinued Winchester Model 100. The current line of Winchester autoloaders doesn't come in .308, but is available in .30-06 and .300 WSM.
FN and Saiga both have .308 Sporter models, but they still show their military heritage in the ability to take large capacity mags, and the Armalite AR-10 and Bushmaster .308s are designed to look tactical.

I know its not sporty, but this one deserves a look at.
If you like the AR style of rifle, check out the Remington R-25. I don't own one, but they are essentially a .308 built for what you describe.

Basically, its a hunting AR10.
Its also rumored to be a fancy DPMS with a Remington name on it, but don't take my word for it.

Patrick Sweeney from G&A did a very good review on it here:

My local gun store has a Winchester Model 100 in .308 on the shelf. If I were looking for a .308 in semi auto, I think I would stop looking with that one.

Actually, the Winchester SXAR comes in .308. CDNN Investments was running them for $999 bucks a while back. Standard Winchester SXR's are in 30.06, .270, 300wsm, and .270wsm. The SXR's can be had for around $600 on gunsamerica.com.

The Browning BAR is the only one that I would consider. It's a bit pricier than a Remmy 750, but it's worth it.
