Average wait time for Texas CHL?

From what I have heard over at Texas CHL Forum, it is a very long wait for new applicants. 6 months maybe. Renewals 3 months. Check out their site,
http://www.texaschlforum.com/ It seems to be a combination of lots of applicants, poor management by the state, some counties (Harris) being slow on background checks, blaming the hurricane.

I have had mine since '96, renewed three times and I am good till 2012 now since Texas went to 5 year licenses.

90 days

I got mine about two weeks ago. They had my paperwork for exactly 90 days. Three buddies applied the same day. Two had to get their fingerprints re-done. The other guy had to wait about two weeks longer than I did.

YMMV,

Are there any heads to go above to expedite this process?

My mom's about to send hers in.

Maybe if you know someone in government office.

I really think this just comes down to them getting to it as fast as they can.

I remember when it was decided that everyone who wanted to travel to Mexico or Canada needed a Passport. The lines were longer in many places, and the wait time for them to send you your passport was certainly increased.

Same for CHL.

I belong to the Texas CHL forum someone linked a few posts before mine here.

I am actually waiting for my CHL to arrive as I write this. Normally in texas it takes about 60 days for them to arrive. Because of the sudden increase in applications, the time it takes to receive your License is now up around 100 days in Texas. Thats about 4 weeks longer than it would be under normal circumstances.

Sent in my paperwork March 30th. The application is still processing (so the site says) anyday now it should change to completed as per the schedule of people who've received their cards just recently.

I looked up the status of my appication online, it said "processing application." I don't remember what it said before I mailed it. Does that mean they have already recieved my application?

Yeah, that means it is somewhere in the stack of being imput and sifted through. It will change to "completed" when the card is in the mail to you.

Sent mine mid-March, still waiting; Harris County, the worst of them all for slow turnaround of background checks.

any updated on wait times. i submited mine the first week of feburary, had a mistake they mailed back to me and i resent it the first week of march. still nothing to this day..totaling over 6 months now...

I don't think I'll have my renewal back in time. I got a Pennsylvania out of state permit from Centre county to hold me over.

Still waiting here, halfway into my 5th month.....no problems with my app other than I work in harris county, and I think their slow background checks are responsible.

I received my chl last year, there was a wait then also. May I suggest to call your district state representative. After speaking to his secretary, I got a phone call from the dps office stating that it would be in the mail that day. Now did it speed up the process, maybe, did I get more information definitely.

At the end of last year it took 4.5 months for me to get my 4th renewal.
They took 100 days before they told me I didn't sign one of the forms. That was a lie, as the forms were triple checked and I remember signing all the forms.

The local gun store manager said that is a delaying tactic they are using. He said they tried to pull that on another customer. When the man said, not only did he sign all the forms but he made copies before sending them to DPS.

DPS, "Oh yeah, we found it".

After 4 months I got pretty aggravated with them and told them, "I'm tired of excuses. You people have a job to do and it isn't getting done. If I did as poor a job at work as you people are doing I would be fired. I think some people at DPS should be looking for jobs".

I think the TSRA has really dropped the ball on this.

finaly

i did finaly get my chl last friday on 8-24-2009 which was 6 1/2 months after i submitted my paperwork..but I GOT IT......

It's also important to point out that until September first only "sworn DPS officers" can process and conduct the background checks.

We just got that little "criteria" lifted the lesilative session.

Theoretically, things should speed up quite a bit now since the manpower for conducting the checks has essentially increased by an order of magnitude.

not sure i like that, either. those CHL packets are essentially identity theft one-stop shopping ;)
