1. Are reg. capacity mags legal on exactly 9/14/04 or the night before, hence the name sunset?

2. Are they making the mags now but not selling them yet, or do they start making them on that day so I wont be able to buy them until a little after?

3. Are they making them for mostly all of the guns they can, or just the few extremely popular ones?
 
1. Probably on the day of 9/14/04 is when you can do stuff to your gun.

2. They are probably already making them by now. They should be available on 9/14, but some might not get in til a few days later.

3. They are going to make them for all the guns that can accept hi-capacity magazines. Most post-ban, low-cap, pistols won't be able to take them, so newer, hi-cap versions of pistols will probably be made or recontinued.

2. Banned items have always been made. Just legal restrictions on selling items.

3. Just as with #2. These items are made for all guns. Just restricted in sales.
 
Keep in mind that law enforcement and the military in the US and the citizens of many other countries were never affected by the ban, so there is already a supply of mags and accessories for some guns.

Besides all the pre '94 stuff that will be easier and cheaper to get.

and one more question, does this mean you still have to get a title 3 stamp to get supressors and automatic weapons?
 
The laws on supressors and automatic weapons will be unaffected.
Those laws will remain the same as today [8-17-04].

Those items are covered by the 1934 NFA. Until that law is repealed (not likely anytime soon, and it never had a sunset date) you will still have to get the class 3 stamp for supressors and full-auto guns.
 
Shame - i really think a fully auto .22lr would be fun (and fairly - sorta) cheap to use....

Wouldn't mind a burst mode on my mini - not really intersted in fully auto... altho who knows... not like i ever fired one that was full auto =(

Saw a 22lr gun w/ one of those barrel clips that held 100 rnds ... didn't have the cash to buy it then... i know it was semi - but sure looked like it would be fun to shoot (that is if it didn't jam every 2 rounds or something... rofl)

Pretty much the big deal on this one is the extended (standard cap?) mags will be avail. Most of the other stuff i don't see as being a big deal (to me) but glad it sunsets if only cause it was a step... and inch if you will - and i don't want them to take the whole mile!

It expires the next day.

There are all kinds of mags availible...just not sold. Some companies quit importing mags but that is changing.

Most every gun that has a magazine has options as to the size...some are practicle, some are not.

NFA doesn't change, import ban doesn't change...just the evil feature and high cap stuff.

Most pistols were not effected by the AWB other then the ban on hi cap mags. Manufacters change the design of the mags not the guns. So you will be able to hi caps for your Glock, Berratee, whatever.

You will be able to own them any such item after the ban ends, as there will be no law against their possession.

They will have the same meaning as Remington's "For police or military use only" markings on their folding stocks for pump-action shotguns: feel-good words that are meaningless in a court of law.

Does this mean I can purchase/use LEO only mags for my SigPro?
Ok...super duh....should have read the ENTIRE thread before I posted!
 
I'm going to make it a point to buy every single magazine stamped "Military or LEO use Only" I can find just to own a bunch of stuff that the government said I couldn't own for 10 long years.

Sunset AWB

Most of the discussion on this thread has been re hi-cap magazines. I have a couple of post ban AR receivers that were built up as "legal" rifles (ie fixed stocks/no "flash hiders") Does the sunset mean I can re-barrel or put collapsible stocks on them?

For domestic firearms, yes - thread those barrels, add collapsible stocks, add flash suppressers, add bayonet lugs, etc.

NFA rules still apply. Import restrictions will still apply.

That depends on the results of the Presidential and congressional elections. Senator Kerry's web site states that he wishes to "renew and strengthen" the ban, and that he in the past has voted to ban the "possession or transfer" of these "weapons of war." IF he wins, and the Democratic party continues to be run by the prohibitionists, then they will likely try to institute a new, and probably more sweeping, ban, perhaps along the lines of California's draconian "assault weapons" law. (And one could imagine someone like Dianne Feinstein becoming Attorney General.)

IF the election does not go well for the Democrats and/or they decide to finally drop this albatross from around the Democratic party's neck, then the ban may stop there.

We are already seeing that the media is pushing as hard as they can for a "renewed and expanded" ban, though, even though the rhetoric is getting pretty ridiculous. (Some writers are already calling nontraditional-looking guns and over-10-round magazines "weapons of mass destruction.":rolleyes: )
 
You know I going to go ahead and get an AK type rifle simply for the fact I may not be able to buy one in the future, along with as much ammo and mags as I can afford.

You could, but it's not really about whether you or I personally can have these guns right now, the real question is will we need these guns 20, 50, or 100 years down the road.

That's been my justification. I built an AR, bought a cheap AK and now I've got a cheap(ish) FAL on layaway. I've been putting off buying less expensive firearms that I know I will be able to buy later.

Still, just because we've got ours is nor eason to ease off on our senators and reps. Not much point talking to El Nucular Presidente (aka Dan Quayle The Second Coming), he'll sign if it they send it to him.
 
The new ban won't be passed in its current form. It includes things like Thompsons and even the M1 Carbine. He'res a look at what they want to pass: (see attachment)

The good news is, you can still have your bayonets! The bad news is, instead of having 2 features illegal, there is now one feature illegal rule. As in, AR-15s would be dead, so would AKs, because no pistol grips (eveb thumbhole stocks) are allowed, and a gun only has to have one feature to be banned.
