Axe Man Runs Amok on Norway Plane, Injures Pilots
Sep 29, 7:52 AM (ET)

OSLO (Reuters) - A man attacked two pilots and a passenger with an axe on a domestic Norwegian flight on Wednesday, police said.

The pilots, who witnesses said were covered in blood, managed to land the 18-seat Kato Air flight with seven passengers on board on its way from Narvik to Bodoe in northern Norway.

The attacker, in his 30s, was immediately arrested at Bodoe airport.

"The flight was about to land when both pilots were attacked with an axe," police official Margrete Torseter at Salten police district in northern Norway told Reuters.

The three were taken to a hospital. "They are injured but it is not life threatening," Torseter said.

The hospital said in a statement the patients had minor injuries, mostly to the head.

Torseter said the axe had probably not been carried on board the Kato Air flight 605, but was possibly installed for use in case of fire.

The attacker said he was Algerian, police said.

Random violent crime is rare in the Nordic nation, but one person was killed and five others wounded last month when a knife attacker stabbed passengers a tram in the capital Oslo.

I didn't hear any news until I got to work this evening, so I don't have all the details.

It seems it was an Algerian asylum seeker that had had his application turned down some time ago and was about to be sent out of the country.

He "smuggled" an axe and a couple of knives on board, there is no security check at some of these small regional airports.

The man entered the cockpit and hit the pilot in the head with the axe, then attacked the copilot and grabbed the stick and shouted that he was going to make the aircraft crash. The pilots fought the man while trying to fly the aircraft, a Dornier 228.

The pilots shouted for help from the passengers, two of whom jumped the man and brought him under control. Both pilots and one of the two passengers received wounds to the head, but none of the injuries were life threatening. The aircraft was down to 100 feet or below before the pilots regained control, both pilots were covered in blood after landing. The wounded passenger was a politician, obviously not as useless as many of his colleagues...

The let's call him individual, has been brought to a psychiatric hospital. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if the idiots in charge now let him stay in the country to get psychiatric help after his "cry for help". :barf:

They said down to 30 meters before regaining control !! Yes he'll probably get asylum in an asylum and put the knives and axe in jail !!

Are you sure you didn't mean "1000 feet or below" ...?
As mete said, the number in the news is 30 meters, that's 98 feet unless this history major's math is completely off... :)

Yes he'll probably get asylum in an asylum and put the knives and axe in jail !!
We treat criminals with silk gloves here, but we're not as bad as many others when it comes to blaming the tools. The axe will probably not be charged with any crimes. ;)

"They are injured but it is not life threatening," Torseter said.

Obviously he was not using a Gransfors Bruks nasty assault axe.

I hope the crew will recover in time. Hopefully this miscreat will be locked away for a long time in a location somewhere far north of the Arctic Circle if not deported outright, preferably to some Algerian hellhole, but I repeat myself.

Regards,
Rabbit.

"The let's call him individual, has been brought to a psychiatric hospital."

A morgue would have been more appropriate.

Why do so many reports avoid the title that fits? The man was an ALGERIAN TERRORIST. Nothing more, nothing less. There are hundreds of thousands of Mexicans and Central Americans who get flown back home by INS every year here, and not one of them has pulled a stunt like this. People who get booted for immigration violations sue or write nasty letters, they don't take axes to the pilots and try to crash the plane! :cuss:

Well ... getting down to 30 meters before pulling out is really dramatic

I thought that getting that low and surviving only happened in the movies
They were minutes from landing when the drama started. The dive from some 5000 feet was so steep that when the second passenger to join the fight unbuckled his seat belt, he fell out of the seat and hit the cabin ceiling before getting to grips with the axeman. Several reports say they were in a spin, although I doubt most of the reporters know what that is, it seems they are qouting someone who does.

The same pilot landed an aircraft last year using engine power and flaps after losing the use of the elevators due to a lightning strike.

Obviously he was not using a Gransfors Bruks nasty assault axe.

What medication are you on???
The cops (some of them) that has a need to be in the media blames the tools all the time.
Remember the other "non western" foreigner who stabbed and killed people on that tram in Oslo a few weeks ago???
Cop: "We have to outlaw these knifes (holding up a Rambo knife). Nobody needs a knife like this."
Oh, and not to forget his best quote: "Atleast with a pistol you stop killing when you run out of bullets, but with a knife like this, you can keep on stabbing untill your arm is tired".

:cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

It is F'n unbelivable what some people can make themselves do and say.
