    MARYLAND SHALL ISSUE

    - ANNOUNCES THE -

    2nd OPEN HOLSTER DAY RALLY

    November 7th, 2009
    10 AM to 5 PM
At Baltimore Inner Harbor’s McKeldin Square

Purpose: To have a large, completely peaceful and unarmed gathering of supporters of “Shall Issue” laws in Maryland. We will be wearing empty holsters in protest of the current “Discretionary Issue” system that sees Handgun Carry Permits issued only to those politically connected or dealing in extraordinarily large amounts of physical cash, or the occasional person who can meet the high burden of proof needed to receive one for self defense.

How to Participate: The intent is to have a nice day with the family and friends at the Inner Harbor, shopping, eating and sight seeing while wearing, in plain sight, an empty holster. You will know others participating in the protest by their open holsters. Stop by the Open Holster Day Rally information booth at McKeldin Square, located at the intersection of Light and Pratt Streets, introduce yourself and make new friends.

Basic Safety Rules: All holsters must remain empty at all times. Do not put toy guns, training guns or the like in your holster. We want to emphasize the emptiness of the holsters and our lack of protection. The holster will simply be a fashion accessory, symbolizing our vulnerability to criminals.

Long Term: The plan is to build on each Open Holster Day Rally, gathering more protesters to join us in January, during the Legislative session, to take the protest to the next “Shall Issue" bill hearing. Join us, make friends and help the movement to get Shall Issue Conceal Carry in Maryland.

For more information and updates go to http://www.marylandshallissue.org/ and join the discussion under the "Events" forum on http://www.mdshooters.com/forum.php

PLAN TO JOIN US AND BRING YOUR FAMILY!

Our friends from the surrounding states that have Shall Issue CCW are encouraged to join us. We need all the help we can get to draw the Press and public awareness.

Lesson learned from Annapolis open holster event

My holster doesn't look like anything more than a black cell phone holder, and neither do most people's. Thus, my holster didn't even call attention to the fact that I was wearing it at the Annapolis event. I had to hold up flyers before people even noticed I was doing more than strolling along.

I plan to wear one of those gaudy big Western ones to future events.

Didn't make it to the last one in Annapolis. But I will definitely be there on the 7th. Anyway I can get some fliers early to pass out to people to try to get more people involved?

    Your wish is my command!

The hours will be 10 AM to 5 PM for the information booth in McKeldin Square. Everyone stop by and introduce yourself.

We really want to expand on our Annapolis experience this past August. We need people!

The first round of letters to the Governor, Attorney General, Maryland State Police, Baltimore Police Department, Baltimore Sheriff’s Department, Baltimore City School Police Department, Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland Transit Administration Police, and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police have gone into the mail with certified receipts. So the LEO’s and their bosses will be notified of our Open Holster Day Rally.

Now we focus in on the Press!

Hi guys. Quentin here. I'd like to donate $100 to the cost of printing and to support the cause. These things are done for free I know, and I want to help. Message me on how and where and to whom I can give.
    Thanks

The Permit cleared through the City of Baltimore!

The local LEO’s have been notified, the Governor and Attorney General have been notified/invited, and we are working the Press.

Come on out and join us. Only 22 days away.

You, Sir, are my Hero of the Day! I was just working on the new Brochure to hand out at the Rally and soon will need to get it to a print shop. Thanks for your help.

You are most welcomed. Thank you for trying to make MD a shall issue state. Check your pay pal account, and next tim you do something like this if I can pre-plan I'll try to pitch in with more than a few dollars, but maybe I'll volunteer to do some actual work if I'm in town when you do it. Keep it up brother, I'll be pleased to meet you in person soon.

I got a call from Governor O'Malley's office. Unfortunately he has prior engagements and will be unable to attend. :cuss:

We need to rally the Gun Community in Maryland. Come on out and support us at Baltimore's Inner Harbor on November 7th.

Just a reminder that we have about 2 weeks before the Rally. Keep your day open and come down to the Inner Harbor and join us to celebrate our 2nd Amendment Rights!

I'll do my best to be there...I recently moved here (Crofton) from Minnesota and I was pretty upset to discover I can't get a permit here. Keep up the good work.

    Weedy,

Come out on the 7th and bring some friends! All are welcomed. As a new Marylander, check out the Maryland Shooters Forums. They are having a Fall shoot just across the Bay Bridge the weekend after the Rally. Lots of guns to see and even try out. Last year we had a few 50 Cals and a fair share of full autos at work.

See you at the Inner Harbor!

    Success!

We had a successful day. We did not have the turnout I had hoped for, but more then 30 people joined us to hand out brochures and talk with people around Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. There were many tourists from out of town, more then a few offering us encouragement and support. We talked to some Anti’s and got them to think a little. Made a few new friends and talked with some old. Rep. Todd Schuler of the 8th District came out and talked with us. We thank him for his support.

All in all a good day, no one was harassed for their openly displayed holsters, the Police waved at us, the town folk did not tar and feather us, we got the word out and came home knowing we made some difference. You can find pictures over at the Maryland Shooters Forum at the end of the Event thread (http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=25427)

Thanks to all that helped spread the word and to those who joined us. We have a long way to go, but the first baby steps have been taken. The next target is back to Annapolis in January or February. The Maryland General Assembly starts their 2010 session on January 13th. We have our message and we will be taking it to them. Follow along with us and get the latest information at,

    http://www.marylandshallissue.org/

    Thanks again for your support!
