So I live in southern illinois and sometimes visit other states for work or fun and can usually carry in them. Sometimes I bring a pistol but that usually works out to be a pain. Put on a nice IWB holster and you might ruin it by wearing it without a gun in it until you get out of the state, or you have to try to snap the holster on somehow. I've been thinking about how convenient it would be to just load the 642 and drop it in my waist band sometimes. The barami hip grip looks to be pretty good for this.

I've always had it drilled into me that you have to use a holster to keep the trigger covered and to be sure the gun doesn't run down your pants. Realistically, the trigger isn't anything I should be worried about on the 642 is it? Does the barami grip hold the gun securely enough that it should keep in on its own? Convince me they're safe and good :D

I have used the Barami hip grip and it is perfect for what you describe. I carry a 640 24/7 and always use a good holster unless like you describe I am on vacation, back and forth to the beach, etc. It is held in place by the guns own weight to the belt or the waistband of your pants. It is not a tight fit but if you place it at the belly it should be kept in by whatever extra you have there.

If you like to use a holster most of the time, why not pick up a cheapo clip on which will work the same way and you don't have to switch out your grips...

clip draw isn't bad and still works in alot of holsters. doesn't work with laser grips though

I have yet to find a holster that I like for that, especially the cheap clip ons. Usually they hold the gun with no cant and not the tighest against the body making for poor concealment. The barami appears to hold the gun canted farther forward than most holsters would be able to and still be able to drawn from easily making it easier to hide.

The Barami product is top-notch; works exactly as described and with a reasonable degree of security. I wouldn't pole-vault with the Baramis and expect the gun to stay put, but short of that, I'm comfortable carrying my 640 almost exclusively using the Baramis.

It is so convenient and well-made that as soon as I got rid of my Barami-clad J-frame, I noticed how inconvenient it was to carry by other means and sought another J-Frame. I bought a 640, put on the Barami's, and this one's a keeper. I won't make the same mistake twice.

Best $25.95 I ever spent as a shooter.

Glad to see a couple good reviews, sounds like I might have to give 'em a try and trust that double action pull a little more :D
