Just wondering what is better ammo for my Yugo SKS. I know that each gun has it's own preference but was just wondering what you all have had the best luck with.

Thanks in advance,

Either/or. I've used both in a Yugo and a Chinese, and they're both good. I can get the Wolf cheaper, so that's what I shoot the most. :)

Wolf ammo didn't really agree with my two Yugos. I've had good results with Barnaul and Silver Bear.

I've usually found the Barnaul a little more accurate, especially the soft-points. But I haven't shot much of the newer (non-laquered) Wolf. That will change over the next 6 weeks, when I start driving out to the bird hunting and target shooting farm. Still, I can't recall ever having a problem with the Wolf (or the Barnaul).

My yugos are more accurate with barnaul but it is getting kind of hard to find right now. Mark

Wolf's been non-existant in these parts too... used to be that I could pick up a case for $88, but then it dried up. Now people just have S&B, Federal American Eagle, and (on occasion) Brown Bear.

Not much cheap 7.62x39 anymore, and ordering it online or by mail is out of the question for me. :fire:

I'll shoot Wolf if I'm just playing around - I order it in 500 round ammo cans so that I always have *something* hanging around to shoot. I haven't noticed any difference in accuracy between the 'old' Wolf and the 'new' Wolf - both tend to 'pattern' more than they give groups. For 50 yard stuff, that's OK.

Having said that, all three of my SKS's are far happier with the Barnaul 125gr softpoints than anything else, and that's what I'll use if I'm actually needing some degree of accuracy and/or pushing the shooting much past 50 yards. I had been buying it from Military Gun Supply in FtWorth, but last I checked they were out.
