I picked up nickeled Model 37 Airweight with a small circle of flecked nickel on the barrel's underlying metal. Unger magnification, the areas immediately around the fleck appears stable. Please see pictures.

Any suggestions on keeping it from spreading? A dab of clear nail polish?

Thank you, Bill

Keep your solvents OFF that spot. Some solvents will attack nickel and do it in short order. Just about any penetrating oil could get under the finish in a spot like that and hurt the finish too. Plain old motor oil works as well as anything that will be 110% safe for a solvent on nickel guns.

A little clear nail polish would help. Then use paste wax on the outside of the gun. It won't need any cleaning of the outside beyond a wipedown and re-wax.

HSMITH: Thanks for the reply.

I have some Johnsons Paste Wax in the yellow tin, intended for floors I think. Would this be a good choice, Regards, Bill

Johnson's Paste Wax has been used on guns for many , many years !!

Thanks folks,

what is the recommended method for removing the existing film of oil on the pistol's nickel surface? Bill
