    Hey guys,

I set out to build myself a dedicated predator hunting rig on the AR platform. I thought I knew what I wanted, but now I am a little unsure. I purchase a 24 inch barrel for the build, but now I am thinking it may be a little bit long. I am rethinking it and think I may want a 20 incher. Any thoughts on this. I hunt CO plains country and have the chance at some nice long shots. Just what will I be sacrificing by losing the 4 inches of barrel.

Unless you plan to carry it around alot, the 24" barrel shouldn't hurt anything. If it were a walk-around rifle, I'd say go with the 20" or maybe shorter.

I have the 24" on my ar platform, and love it. I don't think you will gain much from losing the extra 4".

I guess it is just shock. I have several ARs, this thing is just huge compared to the others. I won't be moving around with it much, I had it sitting next to my car15 and it is a totally different animal. I guess the tactical side of me is just having issues with the length.

The difference between 20 and 24 is typically 150-175 fps.

my primary predator-whacking ar-15 sports an 18" tube. my next one will be 16.25...

the velocity lost is not enough to get excited about, and handiness increase is enough to get excited about.

that is kinda what I was thinking, if I ever had to sit up and turn with the longer barrel it would take forever, probably not but would seem like it.
