Bass pro price match on primers? anyone tried?

To make a long story short the only option I have for picking up primers locally is at bass pro where they charge $44 per 1k for remington primers :banghead:.

I am working on saving for a big order online but in the mean time found out that they will price match but don't know if it would apply in this scenario.

anyone tried?

When Wolf primers are only $15.50 and Tula only $20.00 from Powder Valley, it really only takes 2000 primers to more than make up for the shipping and hazmat when you compare PV to a place that charges $44/K.

Don't know about the price matching though.

I'm usually a cheapskate who doesn't much much stock in price snobbery (I got plenty of Lee equipment on my bench ), but I've heard enough bad press on the Wolf/Tula primers that I wouldn't bother with them. Not only a bunch of internet talk, but I was shooting with a guy literally just this past weekend who was having the primers fail to go off. I'd say that about 25% of them were snaps, and sure enough they were Tula primers.

Order online in quantity, but I'd go for CCI instead (only because they tend to be the cheapest of the "good" ones. From my perspective though I'll use CCI, Winchester, Remington, and Federal interchangeably - CCI just seems to cost less).

You might check some gun shows too. My local shop charges $40 per 1k for primers but when a gun show is in town I can usually get them for $30/1k.

Buy 3k and still save with haz-mat and shipping.

Im really cheap I am going to buy ~5k of wolf primers and do a group buy .

I have used wolf primers and they work great but on my lee press I have to seat them with a little more force.

I use remington primers for competitions/backup SD ammo but for regular target shooting I just don't see why it matters if you get 2-4 duds in 1k(my experience). Out of those duds it could be the brass not allowing them to seat but every time its a primer that isn.t seated correctly.

Called a manager and they will price match local brick and mortar.. I asked about cabelas(not one close) and he said they will price match cabela's as a direct competitor. I asked specifically about primers and he said doesn't matter what product to get the product and go to customer relations with a copy of an ad or some sort of proof from cabelas.

He said it has to be regular not sale prices. Cabela's regular price is 32.99 on winchester primers and bass pro is 44.99. I'm going to look into brick and mortar stores around to see if I can do better.

follow RC's thread a little further down the page and you will see that Cabalas has a pretty attractive sale right now that might offset the cost of hazmat depending on how much you buy.

Are there any LGS in your area that deal in reloading supplies? Almost every (need to check) LGS near me has some reloading supplies. Prior to the price hike in May, one was actually cheaper (slighly) than PV on primers. They are on par now.

If they don't readily keep them in stock, ask them if they'll order something for you. One of the LGS near me won't charge me HazMat or shipping and their prices are only a little more than PV.

I understand being cheap/frugal. Find some folks near you that reload. You will hopefully be able to fine at least one that can go in on a group buy. This is where I save the most.

If I can get Bass pro to honor $32 cabelas primers when I can just go pick them up and avoid shipping hazmat its a decent price IMO for winchester primers which will hold me over for awhile.


I just bought 2 guns so I will order some wolf/tula when I get some more cash in the gun stash.

I have shot thousands of rounds with Wolf or Tula primers and I never had a bad one, unlike CCI 400 and Federal 205 primers. The Russian primers have worked in AR 15s as well as my various M 700 bolt guns. The extreme spread is better than Remington 7 1/2s, in my experience.

bass pro will price match ANYTHING.. I have done it many times, I went in there one time an...d had 200 in gift cards, had like 50 in rewards dollars, and then made them price match dicks one day sale, I walked out with a brand new stoeger 200 for 100 bux out of my pocket

Bought a bunch of primers (and powder) yesterday from Cabela's on line. LGS couldn't beat the prices even accounting for the hazmat charge.

Graf & Sons has been having weekend sales for the last several months. Some of these include 1/2 off HazMat, free shipping, discounted primer, etc.

Probably a little off topic. But if you have a Cabela's close by shop their site first before you go to the store. The local Cabela's store will price match their (Cabela's) website. Just ask the cashier on checkout to match the price....the pull it up and override the price (with help for their supervisor).

Cabela's prices on reloading are usually cheaper online and I just have the store match the price....with no shipping or hazmat.

If you have a Cabela's nearby, just order on-line and have it shipped to the store for pick up. They will e-mail when it arrives and there is no shipping or haz-mat.

I don't know if Bass Pro has the same set-up.

cabelas has the lyman 1200 dps 3 for 229 on the site. it's 279 in store so I was just wondering today if they will match their own site
